Thanks and I think you are right but I am sending the following email to DVLA for confirmation! With any luck someone somewhere might follow this up and prevent dear Mr T from doing any such thing!
There's plenty of car parks around who use the No plate recognition system and then get details from DVLA.

Seems all they need to say is that the vehicle was parked on private property without permission/beyond allowed time and they get the details.

The question is would Tesco have any staff prepared to purger themselves to get the info.

Good luck, Tesco do have this system ! and don't believe what people say that they can't get info on your details through car registration-they can !

Oh no they can't..........panto season again

Not without a blo8dy good reason.....or a hefty fine if they use misleading reasons.

With respect....I cant believe that.....Whats the DPA for then

That really sounds too trivial a reason.

Ok, I'll take a pad, but one more question if I may be so bold (or brave)

In the misprices thread people are saying what something will scan at in comparison to the SEL. How do I know that when I go to my local Tesco that it will scan at the different price?

i think even a police man wouldnt know
they could give a vague answer but it would have to be down to the judges or solicitors

Yes, I thought might be the case, hence my question to the DVLA re under what circumstances they do consider 'reasonable cause' that are not actually illegal (overstay or parking in a disabled space were two that came to my mind).
Personally, I think it DVLA should only be allowed to give info if the owner has committed a proven illegal act or the store can give strong evidence of a suspected illegal act that they intend to prosecute! If Tesco really think they are being 'abused' why don't they just call the police? They know darn well that R&Rers (even deliberate ones) are NOT doing anything illegal!
