A Slimmer Summer with Slimming World

Hi! Newbie alert!
I have just started Slimming World, doing it on my own as I got the books and a CD with with all the syns listed from eBay. Had a great first week, lost 3.5lbs but the last week has been a total and utter write off. Determined to get back on the wagon. Weigh in is tomorrow morning - eek!
I have a question about juices on Slimming World. I have a juicer and like to make juices from the Jason Vale books for breakfasts or when I get in from work if I'm eating late. My juices usually contain apples, spinach, celery, beetroot, ginger, cucumber and whatever else needs using up, along with wheatgrass and spirulina. Can anyone tell me whether these are actually free on Slimming World? I know that whole fruits are free but then actual fruit juices (i'm presuming these are in cartons) are listed as having Syn values. Is is something to do with not having the benefits of the fibre in the whole fruits?
Thanks in advance!0 -
can anyone help with syns?
its roast chicken flavour snack pasta.
204cals
2.6g fat (of which 1.3g saturates)
41.5g carbs (of which 2.3g sugar)
do you need any other info?
that is for the packet as consumed
also the chicken & mush pasta n sauce are free on ee as long as you dont use the milk & butter isn't that right?
thanks & hope i dont annoy anyone with my questions!0 -
Hello everybody.
For the first time in over 30 years, I've gone above the acceptable level for my height and need to lose some weight.
Never having been to a slimming class, I'm not sure how these programmes work and wondered if somebody here might answer a few questions about the Slimming World programme.
What are these 'syns' people talk about? Does it mean 'sin' as in a food that shouldn't really be eaten?
Also different coloured days; what does this mean exactly?
And lastly, do you have to follow recipes and stick to a strict daily regime as far as colours and meals are concerned?
There is a local class close-by this evening and I'm not sure whether it's the right programme for me, so I would be grateful if somebody could help with the answers, as I don't want to go and waste money on joining, only to find it's not something that I feel comfortable with0 -

I've tried to answer below. I'd certainly recommend SW. I's my first ever venture into weightloss but it's not really a diet more a healthy eating plan.Hello everybody.
For the first time in over 30 years, I've gone above the acceptable level for my height and need to lose some weight.
I believe you have to need to lose at least 7lbs.

The syns are things that should be eaten in moderation (fats, sugars etc). Each has a syn value to ensure you limit what you have.
Also different coloured days; what does this mean exactly?
There are three plans: Green, Red and Extra Easy. When you go to a meeting it is likely that EE will be explained as it's just that! EE allows for loads of meat, fish, pasta, potatoes etc but you must have at least a third of your food as fruit and veg. Green is probably most suitable for vegetarians as it limits fish and meat but does allow for extra cheese or bread. Red is very meat based and limits carbs. That's a very basic explanation. If you look at the very first post on this thread it's explained in a lot more detail (and far more clearly!:rotfl:).
And lastly, do you have to follow recipes and stick to a strict daily regime as far as colours and meals are concerned?
No to the recipes. You can cook what you like with the correct ingredients. You should try to eat regularly but can vary when you have main meals/snacks etc. Extra Easy is incredibly simple to follow but if you choose Green or Red you have to stick to one of them for a day at a time.

Bum! Bum! Bum! There was me hoping for a 2lb loss to get my 3st, and went and found 1lb instead. Totally 'miffed' to say the least! Probably my own fault, as I met up with an old friend, but only had 2 pints of bitter and 2 vodkas, no where near what I had anticipated. So here I am, on holiday in a fortnight, and totally off course. Have a really busy workload before I go away, so cant honestly say hand on heart that I wont, even with the best will in the world, stay on course.
I have already taken some holiday time at SW, and am unsure how I am going to work this. Am I right in saying we are allowed 6 weeks 'holiday' without paying as long as it's pre-booked? If so I will still be a little short as I am away for 5 weeks this time. So do you think I would be better off paying for missed weeks when I return, otherwise doesn't it mean re-joining with a new start weight?
Many thanks for any info.

Thank you very much for your helpful reply, Maman. It's very much apreciated:)
I like the idea of there being different plans and the fact that they sound as though they're quite flexible as far as choices of food and recipes go. Flexibility and not having to follow recipes are far more up my street than a strict regime would be.
The change-of-life seems to have caused me to pile on the lbs - over a stone and a half in the last year:mad:
Then almost two months ago, I gave-up smoking, which hasn't helped either, so something needs to be done about it sharpish, or I'll be "like a pig at a christening" as my late mum used to say when anyone suddenly expanded:rotfl:
Thanks again Maman, I think it's worth while going to the class tonight and seeing how things go:)0 -

I had my first SW class last week, and remember the leader saying that juices have to be synd for the reason you mentioned.0
