Can i ask how everyone decided how many syns to eat? I text my consultant last night and told her i felt guilty about having ten as i hadnt lost any weight yet. She said it was ok to have them if i wanted them. She was very helpful (im sure shes getting sick of me by now!!) and lovely and said everyone is different the amount of syns they can have and lose weight. For herself she uses 12 every day as she says it works for her. She said to make sure i dont feel deprived and i understand a large part of this eating plan is the psychology aspect......
So it ended up with me not drinking my measured out vodka as i didnt really know what I should be doing for the best . I did have 6.5 syns with chocolate etc but i was limiting myself intentionally as I don't know what to do for the best
Maman - I have no idea if your HEB plan will work but I hope so
Also, can someone explain to me how you use the following in SW cooking?
Fromage Frais
Natural yoghurt
Cottage cheese
Quark
So far I've ony found fat free cottage cheese but none of the rest of them fat free. Do they actually say fat free ? The cottage cheese did.....
I'm used to "making it up cooking" and this is where I'm struggling with SW. Also how do people thicken dishes with the lowest syn value? Instant mash? Cornflour?
thanks.
Annie - I know how you feel. Boyfriend sits and stuffs his face with crisps chocolate and sweets while i sit with fruit! I just tell myself it's something I have to learn to do and that that bad food isn't going away or suddenly not be available - like it's not my last ever chance to have sweets crisps and chocolate and vodka or what ever!. It will still be here in a few months time/years time. I just hope my resolve lasts. Well I gave my consultant a food diary ( I actually kept one to take to her as I'd had a funny week of doing ALL greens while being at mums & I felt...bloated and just didnt feel 'right' so wanted her to look it over. Ive just had a text to say the 1st thing she noticed is that I should be using more syns than I am - I normally only have a penguin wafer 4.5 & sometimes a choccie option 2 total 6.5 max(creature of habit lol) she said to make sure I have the full 10 every day..... regardless of whether I want them or not.
I did used to have my full quota when I first started.....had all my little choccie nibbles all worked out, but since MrD has given up eating it I don't seem to buy it in now for me either (and when I do HE goes through it like a whirlwind & blames me for buying it )
So this week I'm making an effort to make sure I do actually eat my syns again like I used to :A and get back on track!0 -
That's helpful thanks. It's confusing getting such conflicting advice isn't it.? I was in the mindset of having my ten every day but then the guilts hit me . What other advice did she give you if you don't mind me asking? As in was it only syns recommendation or more?
You should buy yourself some, portion them off into syns and hide them under lock and key!!! I've wrote syn values on a few things to save me looking in the book. POssibly sad but i don't care

urgh have had a rubbish weekend so far.
had my nephews over last night and made them pizza and garlic bread. they ate the pizza but not the garlic bread so i ended up eating that rather than binning it.
for breakfast today we had baked beans and bacon
then at the cinema i had a fibre plus bar and a couple of handfuls of toffee popcorn - i tried to ignore the bag being passed under my nose but it was impossible!!
was meant to go to zizzi for lunch but it was shut so we ended up in pizza express and i had the pollo salad. lovely salad but i did eat the dough sticks and a little bit of the dressing.
ate some scan bran and cottage cheese for dinner to try to make up for it all
but then my dad turned up and gave me a big chocolate bar from his holidays and i succumbed and ate half of it!!
so all in all i think i am just going to say flexi syn day and start again tomorrow
want to be a good girl tomorrow. i am going out but i thnk we should be going to nandos so that will be much better for me0 -

I have been attending class since summer 07 - quite a while now  when I joined and had my welcome chat, I was told 15 syns. Men were allowed a a few more - 18 I think
Anyway, I'm still attending class and the recommendation now is 10 syns a day which bothers me a bit because 15 always used to work well for me - 6 syns for some wine, 4 syns for treatsize buttons and 5 syns for odd bits - a dash of sauce/spread etc.
I think the mindset behind 10 syns a day is that if you stick to 10 but have miscounted slightly then you have a buffer of 5 syns.
I think that it is important to have your syns and your HEA and HEB options. A friend of mine saves all her syns for alcohol and so bases her meals all around free foods but I couldn't do this I need my syns to allow me that extra flexibility and to add variety into my menus.
I have been struggling for a while now so I haven't been sticking to the plan as I should but when I am, I typically try to limit my syns in the week to no more than 5/6 syns. This leaves me a few extra syns at the weekend because this is my danger time.
If I start the week on a bad note, I typically think to myself, I have 70 syns, knock off what I've had and work out whats left rather than let the bad start ruin the whole week. I flexi syn sometimes and sometimes I allow myself (one day a week) joker day where I have a (normal sized) chocolate bar of my choosing and which i don't count. this proves very useful during *that week*....0 -

I'm with your friend on this Eric. I equate syns with treats and for me the biggest treat I would miss is wine!:o So I'm happy to eat almost syn-free to have my alcohol syns at weekends.
Also, when I started SW (last October) I was told 15 syns a day and it's worked for me. Maybe I'd have had faster weightloss on 10 a day but then maybe I'd have given up because I missed my treats. Who knows?
zippy, there are yogurts that actually say fat-free on them. SW do a book of free foods but you can check on the website. I'm not a huge yogurt fan so tend to have 0% Total or Onken just on fruit instead of cream. I also use it to mix into mashed potatoes and for the odd recipe. I have used quark to make passable dauphinois potatoes in place of the cream/cheese mix I would have used before.0 -
Good morning folks
Well done to all the loosers and (((hugs))) to all who are struggling.
WI day for me today and .............................-3lbs
Had a good week this week but the next 2 will be telling. I am off work and for one of the weeks I am going to France  Plan is to eat as much French Bread as possibleI am safe on the croissant front as I don't like them very much - too greasy for my taste. I am also safe on the wine front as well as I just don't like it at all  Might struggle on the ice cream front though
Not that I am going to worry about anything as I know I have the knowledge to sort it all out once I return
Oh yes! Nearly forgot - this weeks loss has taken me into .............
Not bad for a foodaholic - managed that in 27 weeks with very little effort - it can be done if you don't abuse the plan;)
One little moan I do have - none of my holiday clothing fits meMags - who loves shopping0 -

see..... this is where I've been going wrong of lateI've been keeping my syns low every day 'just in case' I need them at the weekend
(in the hope a sunny day comes and we have a BBQ - glass of wine, might feel the need for an ice cream or something equally naughty on a run out in the car
)
but I've not been using them up.
When I first joined SW the 1st time around it was 15 syns a day (when it was the red/green days) then since they introduced the EE i think they just started telling everyone 10 syns to allow for slip ups in calculating syns - as FLAT ERIC SAYS. But she also mentioned something about the nature of the EE meals themselves needing less syns per day?? (I'm presuming she was on about the naughty unspoken 'calorie' word?)
