isn't is sad when you have to question wether or not you can afford to eat healthly. really short tempered and grumpy today can some one give me a kick up the harris and tell me to cheer up please

I guess it all depends on what your budget is and what you like to eat! I spend ~£200 per month on 'shopping' for me and OH but that includes cleaning stuff and toiletries too. I get most of my meat from the butchers and some of my fruit and veg from the market. We eat loads of fruit and veg and I think £200 a month for what we have is pretty good!

    morning all

well last nights dinner was great - i mixed some of my quorn bolagnaise (nearly all gone now) in with a can of refried beans (free!!) and put the mix in a couple of taco shells (3.5 each) with abit of grated cheese (hea) ontop - very yummy!! though i think i went slightly over my syns by having 3 taco shells.

    today is looking green-

    b - starbucks skinny latte(hea), strawberries, fibre plus(heb)
l - quorn mince and rice, 2 satsumas, ww yogurt

snack - sainsburys basics chipsticks (99 cals so 5 syns i guess)

not sure about dinner, possibly going out to eat.

oh went to asda last night and they are selling punnets of strawberries for £1 (only got 1 though as they didnt look in great condition) and some of the melons are £1 too as well as jersey potatoes and packs of 3 peppers. hth

ps - sw chips = i microwave mine for abit before putting them in the oven too

OMG thats a lot of sugar!!! I wouldn't be too suprised your body us complaining about the sudden decrease. Are you going cold turkey, or cutting down gradually? Either way, I'd concentrate on eating regularly to keep your blood sugar constant throughout the day.

Thanks for the replies about the SW chips. You'd think it was straightforward but there are so many variables. I've got one of those trays with holes but the non-stick has seen better days. This week I'm trying one of those sort of basket things you put straight on the oven shelf (I think woot recommended one). I also think the type of potato matters as some go to mush if you parboil for 5 mins.

I'm guessing a sugar withdrawl as well for the headaches (or could that be the lack of vodka!!). Still am gonna stick with it. Am away for a girlie weekend in November and have my eye set on an outfit for a dress up night (I will get into it).

What a morning, I've been cooking biscuits for a PTFA event tomorrow - one fell on the floor, a few more burned. No guessing where they went.... I am not going to feel bad though, today is just today and I'll not be cooking them for another year. Besides, if I look at another hob nob I think I'll scream. On the plus side, Twinks Hob Nobs have been so easy to make, I've made about 130 so far and first lot went in 2 hours ago!!

In regards to cost - I know you can eat fruit cheaper but I am allergic to a lot of the stuff you get cheaper, apples, pears, peaches, nectarines, figs and apricots (the last 4 are my worse allergy, my mouth literally swells up if I so much as lick one) I am a bit scared to try new things but I have a pineapple here I'll cut up later once biscuits are finished. I am also allergic to prawns so i make do with seafood sticks - wonder if that is why I am feeling rough, maybe they have a touch of prawn in these ones.

I am going to give it a few weeks to let my body adjust. I am going to have a jacket spud tonight with some low fat cheese triangles and a lot of salad to see how that is. I've bought some cottage cheese but the thought of it is just urgh, that it does not lok like cheese at all. I've never actually tasted it though so maybe tonight is the night, LOL.

Thanks for listening to me whinge.

I don't think it's whingeing at all. It's obvious from the number of posters that come on here hoping to 'go it alone' that cost is a big issue for many people. One way round the expensive SS fruit (and this may not be hugely helpful to you blue monkey, sorry) is to eat other, cheaper SS things instead. It does take a bit of planning but it's very doable.

Strawberries, raspberries and melons feature so much in SW eating plans because they kill two birds with one stone in that they help with the one-third SF (on EE) and they're SS as well. I only buy those sort of fruits when they're a good price. Other times, I eat cheaper fruit and veg (like carrots, apples, tomatoes, SP mushrooms, onions, frozen green beans etc) and have SS in the form of baked beans, red kidney beans, peas etc which are relatively much cheaper.

SW aside, I do think it's disgraceful that eating non-processed food is so expensive. It always infuriates me that most BOGOFs and special offers are for carp but it can be done.

    My EE menu today:
B: NAS squash, HEB toast, baked beans, HEA teas
L: ham & tomato sandwich, frozen berries & yogurt
D: SW chicken curry with extra veg, SW chips and rice
Snacks & Syns: wine syns as it's the weekend:j and some more SFs from somewhere (probably cornichons and beetroot or an apple). I'm going away on Tuesday and trying to eat up what's already in.

Been lurking in the shadows, inspired by you all, and have decided to come out and try to soak up of some of those SW rays....... can someone have a look at what has and will be scoffed today, and let me know if it looks SW friendly?
B Porridge made with water, blackberries and raspberries
L Ham, jacket potato, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, 1 teaspoon of coleslaw
S Muller Light, more blinking berries
D Will be HM SW chilli, brown rice and salad

    Been using milk for coffees

Might have a wee end of week glass of vino blanco to help alleviate the pain of the working week......though I have been very good this week, so feel I deserve/need it!!

    Afternoon All,

I tried diet coke chicken (but used quorn fillets) last night & i must say - it was gorgeous, made some egg 'fried' rice with it!

    Today is a green day

B - Leftover rice mixed with ff activia & frozen cherries
L - Leftover rice with mushy pea curry
D - Left over diet coke quorn & egg 'fried' rice
S - Might have 5 scan bran (heb) with white choc options quark (2), possibly fibre plus br (heb), milk in coffee (hea), got some ryvita minis & some velvet crunch with me - might have one pack later if peckish

Going to seafront tonight with Mum etc. they are having fish & chips but i am taking the leftovers - might have to nick a chip though! Then we are going to play on penny machines - so might not have my scan bran - just another cereal bar instead.

RE: cost of SW - i am not a vegetarian - but i do mostly green days - i do buy quorn products - but only on offfer - I think it is so much cheaper than a red day or EE - but i do have a mi up now & then - for example, if my mum likes the diet coke sauce, i am cooking it with chicken for everyone on sunday and will have an EE day
Also on green days you don't 'have' to have 1/3 superfree - even though my main meals are normally quite vege packed

Try alternating (if the OH doesn't mind!)

I am making a mushroom rissotto on Sat - made one before & hubby loved it

Also going to do some batch cooking for lunches - probably baked bean lasagne, lentil cottage pie & lentil curry - easy meals for lunches - just take out of the freezer the night before!

WELL DONE EVERYONE - KEEP IT UP x
