Just back from Cardiff having dropped off OS at Uni so he is happily settled.
He rang to say that he had heard on FB that if he repaid £5 off his student loan he would get a partial cancellation of his loan of £1500 so he has done it and I have checked and it seems right so paying it now rather than when he would be required to make his first payment means the £1500 is taken off straight away and saves him paying interest on it so he is becoming a proper little :money: in his own right

Well you've obviously done a good job teaching him! Hopefully our children won't end up where we are / have been xxxOne step at a time0 -
do you have to be a welsh national for this. only my nephew is based in Blackpool but at uni in wales and I was wondering if he would qualify for this

You have to have had your loan from the Welsh Student Loan company so I am afraid your nephew won't qualify
Which Uni does he go to?
It is so unfair that the students are treated differently depending on where they happen to love when we are supposed to be the UK

Thanks I am OK but my Mom's deterioration in eyesight is causing major problems as she is demanding my constant attention and whilst part of me feels really sorry for her the other part wants to scream as life is really difficult hence the lack of posting as I am so far behind in everything. We have had a couple of hospital appointments this week and it is not looking very hopeful waiting for an angiogram to see if there is any blood supply getting to her eye but the consultant thinks that what happened to her right eye when she was in her 50s has now happened to her left eye and her sight level is really low reading was her major hobby and although I have got talking books for her she is not using them yet although I am hoping this she will get to grips with them as I just can't amuse her all day every day. My two sisters have rung this week and one is prepared to help by having her to stay when her appointments are over and I will need the respite the other one doesn't have the room and I have not heard from my brother yet but I am hoping he will pull his weight as well.

Sorry things are deteriorating so much with your mums health DT :grouphug:
It's so hard at times to remain patient when they seem in need of constant attention isn't it ? It doesn't matter how much you love them, everyone has a point at which they can't deal with it properly without some time out - I think you're doing a brilliant job DT :heartsmil
Hopefully your siblings will help out and do their bit, giving you some respite & you time :A
I also find it frustrating, when you've bought them things that will aid them / occupy them and then they don't use them  I have on more than one occasion (... well okay .... many an occasion :rotfl:) felt like doing a Basil Faulty .... :wall:

I'm so glad that Greyhound Angel checked up on you, DT ... you sound like you're having a really tough time. Lots of hugs, and thinking of you. I don't even have any experience or tips about what you're going through, and you sound like you're already doing everything - the talking books, the appointments, having her go to your sisters for a bit. Hope you get some downtime soon.

Things are actually improving finally got Mum to listen to a talking book and she likes it and is now on her second:j
Angiogram is next Monday so we should know the worst then but had an email about the new kindle last night which set me thinking and now wondering whether that might help as googling shows you can get quite large text on it not sure about the contrast though but will take her along to try one out when the new one comes out in a few weeks.
Busy week this week with harvest teas and suppers so lots of cakes, jelly, apple crumbles and stew to make it seems that my protest t shirt of I don't make scones as a vicar's wife has failed spectacularly and I have got sucked in to the baking but at least I still don't make scones for church ..........................yet :rotfl:
Just wondering whether the meet is still on for Sunday I am still up for it and I don't care where it takes place if that would help certain other people nudge nudgeI just fancy a natter, a coffee and possibly some cake not necessarily in that order
If not I will go out on my lonesomenot putting any pressure on anyone in particular............................

I might be wrong, but I think that Kindle can read books to you too if the print isn't big enough....0

You are not wrong but the talking books are easier to use for that purpose and the speed is more adjustable it is really for the actual experience of reading that I am looking for. Mom reads hundreds of books in a year and misses the actual reading which I can understand but thankfully she is now appreciating the talking books which gives her something to do and us a break
