Birmingham City Council have unfortunately deprived me of a postal vote by not sending me the forms despite being requested twice.

I've not had mine either! I thought our postie was being a deviant but after putting it on FB I've found a few more of my Brummie friends have not had theirs. Maybe they wrote it on the same calendar as the bin collections...
Thankyou everyone for your hugs, I really need them at the moment. Didn't get round to flying last night (though I did the daily 'pick up after OH' when I got in from work, and the washing up).
aj I'm so sorry to hear about your terrible news. There is not much I can give you except my thoughts.
I have cadets tonight, but am determined to vacuum the LR before I go, the bits on the floor are driving me mad.0 -
they're only at the front of the house - 2 large bays and 2 normal sized windows- we had all the back replaced with the building works last year. I would feel pretty vandalous to rip them out though as they are original and really add to the character of the house (also no cash to do it!:p) A dehumidifier sounds interesting - would it murder the electricity though? Also noise? would it be suitable for the bedroom and would I need another downstairs?
It has taken us 10 years to make the decision - 2 bays at the front, french doors at the back and a side window. We are having them replaced with wooden, individual panes, double glazed. Being handmade locally by somebody we know. For years we have wanted to keep them and we started having them renovated last summer but in places the metal has rusted right through, numerous panes broke during the process, they are 85 years old and sadly at the end of their life. Hoping that the really expensive replacements look ok.The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
gratefulforhelp wrote: »dehumidifiers - often the cause of dampness is a lack of extractor fans, quite often we need these to go with our modern bathing/showering/cooking habits. Also, read Jeff Howells the Rising Damp Myth...the dew point at which condensation forms depends on the air temp, so if a house is heated thoroughly, there is less water to condense out...costs though!
This is the problem with large bays though, you cannot keep the space in the bay warm, we even insulated the inside of the leaded roof with super stuff but at the bay juts out the area is cold with single panes. I don't want to keep the house that hot, can't afford too and don't think it is good for the inhabitants either. The rest of the house does not have the same problem. Moisture in the air is good for breathing problems too.The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -

Must clean the pit over the next few days - next week is ME awareness week and DD1 has arranged to give an interview to the local paper - so the reporter (luckily a mate of the last 18 years) and photographer are coming here on monday!
Last year she did an ME Management course that helped her enormously - the course had been running for years and 80% of those attending found they improved for attending. However she found out a few weeks ago that the course is a victim of the cuts - and is no longer running...... so she wants to raise awareness of this. One of the other people who did the course is coming to join in the interview so I had better get the hoover out and get the place shipshape.....
Very best of luck with this. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
