I'm pretty sure there isn't a business around that would prefer to accept Paypal or credit card payments over a bank transfer.

I use bank transfers regularly to pay companies and have never come across one that won't provide me with their details, whether I have a history with them or not.

I don't see any point in taking this further, you say its safe and are happy with it, I disagree, will not use it and can't see how i'm losing out by not doing it. You are taking the risk however minor it may or may not be, I'm not risking it at all....so we are all happy in our own little worlds.I would however refer you to the top of the board and our illustrious leaders "25 ways to stop scams"...the first line of number 7

I don't want your money and I wouldn't try to take it,I never said in any of my posts that I would or could empty a bank account . What I said was I could make your life hell and with your name and address to complete it I could, just by applying for credit cards, loans etc I could ruin your credit rating for a starter.
As I said above, end of discussion we can go no further on it we have to agree to differ, hang onto your £47.35 just in case you have trouble getting credit in the future :-)

The listing ended the other day, but someone has got in contact with me and would like to buy it using BT (Bank Transfer). This would avoid all of Ebay and Paypals ridiculously high fees they charge.
    :)

Maybe this is stating the obvious, bur this is against ebay terms and conditions.

Funny, I could have sworn that was exactly what you said you could do.
well for a start I'd withdraw money via "demand draft" or "remotely created check" or transfer funds electronically

You don't have to empty it, simply do an electronic transfer or a "demand draft" for a nominal amount, say £5. (and then I don't mind if you donate it to a charity of your choice.)
  • that was "I" meaning the scammer not me personally, I'm not a thief :)

I'm not confused at all, my mind is totally made up and closed on this, NO ONE gets my bank details over the internet.full stop!
You are quite happy to give yours out, good for you, you go ahead and do that but don't tell people it is 100% safe when it isn't. In your very first post you said it was "exremely safe" then went on to give advice to the OP on what to look for if it was a scam. Hang on, its either safe or it isn't,its a scam or it isn't. I don't want to be having to look for scams I'm just not going to give them the chance. My bank details stay with me, my choice.
Can you give us an example of what someone can do with your bank details? The only thing they can do is try and set up a DD for thay you are covered by the DD Guarantee. The only other thing someone can do with your sortcode and Bank account number is give you money. Any other scams involve you doing much more. Any scam involving your bank details would need for you to supply much more information (such as login details) or doing something that would enable you to get scammed by whatever payment method you use.

You should use common sense if receiving a Paypal payment or a Payment by Bank transfer. That is the only risk not understanding the methods.

Have you not wondered why scammers always want payments by bak transfers? Its because one the money is actually in the account there is nothing the sender can do to retrieve it. That;s why it's such a secure method of receiving funds.

As a Buyer I would always use Paypal. As a seller a Bank Transfer is much more preferable as you have no fees and it cant be reversed. If you believe that your sort code and account nimbers are such a risk why are they on cheque books bank card etc. Why do organisations like O2, Souther Power, British Gas and my local council happily give me their bank details so I can use online banking to pay my bills?

Haven't you ever heard the expression, "when in a hole, it's best to stop digging"
If you weren't refering to yourself, why did you also state the following?
If anyone on here thinks that it is safe please pm me your name, address, bank account number and sort code and I guarantee i'll make your life hell for the next 5 years....

You need proper ID for these applications. You would need to know the persons addresses in the past 5 years. Have other forms of ID bills etc. Even with a name and address you wouldn't get very far. You would need a date of birth. and as I said other ID and information you don't have. I'm afraid you wouldn't be a very good scammer or credit wrecker.

It's good that your trying to make sure your safe online but too much paranoia the only person that suffers is yourself.
