it isnt any of their business, but for just a bit of consideration i would tell them you were going away. in future maybe just say ' we are staying with friends for a couple of days' if you dont want to go into detail....

I'm with the OP on this, his family's reaction is really weird and I'd be pretty cross if it were me. Who on earth tells all their relatives when they're going away for a couple of days?

I don't. I usually just tell one or two of them and then, if anyone asks, they know.

But...I'm not sure why the OP wasn't contacted by mobile (either text or call) during this time? Surely a concerned family would try that method? Or does the OP not have a mobile? Or was it switched off?

  • My best friend did this about 2 years ago and to say i went ballistic was an understatement! I was seriously worried that she had been kidnapped and to this day i still think it was a really selfish thing to do. She was missing for over a week and she didn't tell a soul she was going. She took her 3 children with her and not even their dad knew where they were.
She had infact, gone off for a "holiday" with the ex i was so concerned about!
I don't think i could speak civilly to her for at least a couple of weeks.
Saying that, i wouldn't bother telling my family if i were going away because i don't like them and i try to see them as little as possible. My friends and OH's family would know though.
