Keep FOL8 until 1/7. No problems.
Do nothing they switch you to Energy Online tariff - which is the basic tariff with a small discount for being online - probably their most expensive. At your next bill you will get all your FOL8 discountsupt o 1/7 and then the new tariff thereafter.
If you were to switch supplier before 1/7 then you will lose your FOL8 duscount from last bill to transfer date and pay them £30 exit fee. There are ways round it but in view of the timescales I wouldn't worry too much about that scenario.
Would recommend shopping round now to pick up the best deal for you.
EON energy online 7 is their cheapest variable rate offering but it has exit fees.
Other suppliers may be better for you."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I work for Eon and the £30 is not charged when you do a tariff change!
How about when you change from FOL8 (£30 potential penalty for early switch) to the standard tariff (no tie-in penalty)?
No penalty, in practice, then, for switching to the standard tariff. But if you then switch out of the standard tariff to another supplier before 1 July do they still hit you with the £30 FOL8 charge?0 -
Thanks Grizzly for the info....I will have a look round next week sometime
thanks again.0 -
I definately think the regulators need to step in as comparing rates is still so hard, I would like to see your full energy usage in KW for the year on your log in page for example, so that when you want to shop around it's easier and more transparent.
As it stands with Eon I think the only way to do it is open each quarterly bill and add up the units for gas and for elec, never sure on the comparison sites if just entering £30 for gas and £20 for elec (as we pay £50 direct debit) will give me an accurate comparison.
At any rate all the comparable rates are more expensive than FOL8 anyway, so frying pan, fire...
Have e-mailed Eon, let's see what they say, as for us it'd be easier to switch before July 1st to the 2013 fixed tariff within Eon, to guarantee we get it, but I don't want to lose our discount for June if possible.:):)

Airmike23 - Could you please confirm the above?
According to your earlier post, it would seem Eon WILL CHARGE £30 fee even if we switch to a standard tariff if we move suppliers before 1 July - as they will still use the ORIGINAL TERMS from the FOL8 contract.0 -
Hi Guys,
I just want to try and clear up a few of these cancellation fee issues.
As it has already been posted by a couple of people, E.ON may charge the cancellation fee if, you change tariff/ supplier before the end date of the product.
Some posters have advised that this won't be charged if you just move tariff within E.ON, however, you need to be aware that this MAY be applied so E.ON do reserve the right to do this.
There could be some circumstances where this may be charged by just changing tariff, but this will looked at on an individual account basis.

Another EOL8 user here, with us moving home in a few months, I think we are settling with the 2013 fixed package, but again it would be nice if Eon offerred some more competitive packages, this 16% discount in particular....The only other long term fixed rate is the EDF one0

I'd advise anyone still thinking about moving to another tariff to move soon. The fixed price tariff I switched to just a few days ago (Scottish Power) has already disappeared, and other fixed/capped tariffs are being replaced with more expensive ones almost every day. The risk of a £30 penalty might look quite attractive compared with the longer term costs of a more expensive contract.
News like this (today) isn't going to help gas prices:
Centrica, the owner of British Gas, has mothballed its South Morecambe gas field, following through on a threat made last month in response to increased taxes.

It is not just the £30 but the loss of discount on last bill, which can be quite substantial.0
