However if it is actioned before 1 July you lose the discount on your final bill - 26.6% in my case!!

Just needs a little care to avoid losing anything more than a very small sum on this.

Put in meter readings online, press the button to create a bill, and that will reduce any 'damage' to a minimum - just the gas/electricity used between now and 1 July.

Repeat as often as you think necessary...........:)

Isn't the April 2013 a capped tariff? A fix would have been good.

    Hi emeraldbugle

Yes, the tariffs running until 2013 are capped and not fixed.

Ferr 96 is spot on about the difference between the two and there's nothing more I can really add.

You are able to telephone Eon and submit meter readings via an automated system - this will then generate a new invoice.

I just generated a new invoice last week (with the full discount) - plan is submit meter readings via telephone around 15 June (with full discount).

Then only useage from 15 June (about 2 weeks worth of electricity and virtually no gas) will not have the discount applied.

Also of note: my direct debit payment comes out on the 15th of each month - I realised that after 15 May, I was around £150 in credit. I contacted Eon by email requesting that they do not take any payment out on 15 June, as I planned on switching, and that my useage before I leave Eon would more than be covered by my current credit.

They emailed back promptly stating that they would cancel the debit request for June.

I too will be looking for another provider/s shortly when my FOL8 comes to an end.
Eon have been a fab provider for 3 years and their website is great, but at the end of the day cash is king.

Malc - A bit of confusion with a lot of people asking when to cancel their contract and final bills etc.

Could you tell us if this is the right scenario with my example as not to lose final discounts?

    FOL8 Contract ends -- 1 July 2011
    Last Bill -- 4 May
Expected next bill -- 16 Aug

5 June -- Apply to new provider (approx 4 weeks b4 contract ends)
1 July -- Contact Eon with readings + ask for new bill ( after contract ends)

After 1 July - Pay bill (with discounts)

Aprox 5 July- 19 July -- Switchover completes + final bill is provided for last 2 weeks (without discount)

    Hope this will help others

    Craig

    Hi Craig

I agree with victor, starting the switch on 5 June may be a tad too soon.

Whilst I've known switches complete in 4 weeks, these tend to be very much the exception rather than the rule. Probably best to leave it until round about the middle of June.

This should see Fixonline 8 completed and make sure you receive the full discount applicable to the tariff.

Hope this helps Craig. Let me know if I can help further as happy to do so.

Just had an EMail from EON in answer to a question on current tariffs. They told me to check their website near to 1st July as there maybe a better tariff available.
Is this a ploy to stop defectors ? I for one will start the switching process in mid June (2 weeks before tariff ends)

    Hi travellerboy

Just thought I'd clear this one up. At this moment in time, there's no way our agents would be aware of what tariffs will be available on 1 July.

We're told about tariff launches and price changes at the same time as they're announced generally.

One of the first places they're put are on our website and this is the best place to look for anyone wanting to know what we have available at any given time. As for the future, we just don't know.

Hope this clears this up. Let me know if anyone is still unsure and I'll do my best to explain further.

Just a cautionary note merchcon. One of the qualifying features of Fixonline 8 is payment by Direct Debit. If your Direct Debit has been cancelled, in effect, you're not meeting the terms of the agreement.

This could affect the amount of discount earned between the date the Direct Debit was cancelled and the end of the contract. The agent should have pointed this out in their email and I'm sorry if they didn't.

Not saying this will happen merchcon but it is a possibility and just thought you ought to be aware.

Having set the wheels in motion to leave E.On and go to nPower, I had a missed call today from 08007838555. They did not leave a message on the answer machine.
After a quick Google, it appears to have been E.On trying to contact me. Have a look here.

Seems they do this, to try and keep you. - Too little too late in my opinion.

Has anyone else had the call yet?

Yep, they called me, but ended up acknowledging I had done my research and that they couldn't match the price I was switching to.
Thanked me for my custom though, which was nice of them.

    Hi everyone,
I am on Energy Fix online 8 with Eon, and wondering if I should fix to the July 2013 fixed tariff.
As FOL8 expires 1st July, is there any harm in switching now, as I don't want to lose the July 2013 one?
We have a baby on the way and this seems easier right now that the stress of switching supplier, I just don't want to incur any fees if I move to the new tarriff too quickly.

    Many thanks for any advice.
