MSE News: Tesco weakens Price Check guarantee again

I don't agree that the 'selfish/greedy' have spoilt it for the few with the withdrawal of this offer.
It's called 'playing the system'. Big companies have huge marketing budgets put aside to try and convince us to buy from them. In the case of Tesco it's costing them so much more to back up this offer than they intended so it serves them right. If some canny folks have made a few quid of it into the bargain then all the better for them.
It's hardly like benefit cheats who break the rules and make us all the poorer.
Consumer revenge is at the heart of what this site is about - Tesco will think nothing of making huge mark-ups on most of what you buy in your weekly shop. Good on you if you managed to get a small fraction of it back by doing this.We are QPR, say we are QPR!0 -
"Some people have misused the scheme to cash in," a Tesco spokesman said.
An Asda spokesman said: "Clearly they found it hard to make a promise they could not keep."0 -
At last we can pull away from the screen and go and enjoy the great outdoors. We now all know that MR T in many cases is so much more expensive. Those who have been enlightened can still compare items and claim back the difference so that is still a result - particularly should there not be an Asda locally.
:money:ASDA must be laughing so hard at Tesco for this :money:fiasco.
:rotfl::rotfl:Now ASDA still offering difference plus 10% - Tesco's are not even comfortable offering that:rotfl::rotfl:
:DWELL DONE ASDA !!!!!:D:D
:eek::eek: ASDA ARE CHEAPER !!!! :eek::eek:
:TBUT THEN WE DID NOT NEED THIS TESCO SIDESHOW TO TELL US THAT
DID WE Mr T:T0 -
Pathetic! If agreeing to the terms of your price guarantee is proving too costly, maybe you should either lower your prices or stop pretending to be cheap, not withdraw it and blame your own customers!
I've always known Tesco was too expensive, though. I'm more pleased with my receipt total after leaving M&S!0 -
You cannot have it both ways - you can't expect the occasional bargain and in the same breath not expect others to have different parameters for 'occasional' and 'bargain'.nomoneytoday wrote: »Serves the greedy people right..! Shame it spoils it for the rest of the shoppers who want an occasional bargain

So are MSE/Martin going to challenge Tesco to honour any purchases before the 12 midday hastily implemented T&Cs?
Anyone buying this morning (o indeed at all today) or who hasn't got round to submitting their receipts is being punished when some stores are apparently still displaying Double the Difference posters. If you are going to pull this, it is generally good practice to a) let the stores know to remove any mention of the scheme (otherwise false advertising) b) let customers know that it is changing.
People have bought in good faith (ahem!) so it would only be fair to honour them (but given notice to show good faith, you can change when you want).

Do you seriously believe that the clever people at Tesco didn't think it through?
Do you think it's a coincidence this news was released the day before the wedding?

The same has been said about Walmart / Asda. In fact the majority of retailers are the same. The only reason I shop at tesco is cause hubby works there and gets staff discounts + other benefits throughout the year otherwise I wouldn't bother. I worked for them when I was 16 they are a nasty bullying company who only think about the money they make.0 -
Over the last few years we have noticed that Mr T prices were getting so high that even Waitrose recently started to price match them - & not because Waitrose were lowering their prices !!!"Waitrose is now the same price as Tesco on 1000 everyday branded products"
We came late to the Tesco DTD promotion but over the last few weeks we have done all our main shopping at Mr T & thanks to Martin, the forumites & the all knowing 'spreadsheet' gurus:beer: we have done our best to make a tiny dent in Mr T's obscene £3.8Bn (£ 3,800,000,000 ) profits. Sincerely thanks everyone for all the hard work & we have donated all the extra clubcard points to Mr T's Charity of the Year - Alzheimer’s Society.Assume 1st – then check the facts!0
