The things our mothers subjected us to! Mine used to save the plastic bags that sliced bread came in, wash them out and hang them to dry, and then use them as sandwich bags for my packed lunch for school. Every other child in the class had their sandwiches wrapped in clingfilm, and I longed to have clingfilm like everyone else!

Thanks for posting, Cal, skinty, Squirrel, Pennypincher and Alchemilla.

I always had to walk home for lunch and so wanted to have packed lunch at school.

Funny thinking back on how life was then - so different to now.

Lois I take my lunch in bread bags. I had a near coronary when DH ripped a used-once ziploc the other day!

    Off to look at TES!
  • I use a lunch box so don't need a bag! Plus i always have the crusts as no one else will eat them.

Oh absolutely, Alchemilla. I've sent my kids to school with sandwiches in bread bags and they've never minded. I wouldn't have done it if they'd said they hated it, though.

OK, I am going to try Alchemilla's "5 things to be grateful for today" challenge:
    1) Got Brownie uniform from guide shop in the middle of nowhere without getting lost
    2) Went for lovely walk with great friend and dog this afternoon
    3) Somebody had accidentally deleted one of my fave TV progs from the recorder, but it was still available on catch-up online for free.
    4) DD has been in the house for lots of hours today without making a horrible mess anywhere! :D
    5) Found bike pump in the first place I looked for it. Found DD's bike helmet without too much trouble as well, and mine was hanging from my handlebars as it was supposed to be. (Bike ride with DD planned for tomorrow morning, although we haven't been for one for ages.)

Thanks for posting, Tilly, Alchemilla and HDK.

  • Enjoy the bike ride. I'm off for a long dog walk with friends and DS tomorrow and looking forward to feeling free and unencumbered by work and responsibilities.

Have a good day and I love your grateful challenge. I started a happy jar in January because of Elantan and every time something good, complimentary or happy occurs, I write it down and pop it into the jar. Hopefully will make me smile come December :)

My god-daughter has started to do that this year, so I paper-bombed it when we where there, with all the reasons why I love her. Hope it will be a nice surprise when she opens it on New Year

The happy jar is a lovely idea, Tilly & Radish.

Here are my 5 things for today:
    1) Bike ride went well with DD :)
    2) Cake! (from friend who asked for help to make sure it all got eaten while it was still fresh)
    3) Almost all marking finished ready for Monday - one little pile of Y8 posters left to do, but shouldn't take more than a few minutes to look through and stamp them with the stampers.
    4) Nice warm house when it's so cold outside :)
    5) Lovely friend who had DD and several other girls round to play together today.
