How much have you saved by checking receipts?

I always check my receipts and will challenge the cashier (or customer services if more lucrative) if it is wrong, no matter how small the amount. It is the principle of the thing. My kids roll their eyes, saying 'But Mum, it's only like, 10p' but that's not the point. The point is I've just been ripped off. I've been overcharged more times than I can remember, it is definitely worthwhile to check your receipts.
If the person dealing with it is impolite I will complain to customer services and get a gift card for my trouble.
Particularly infuriating are the deliberately misleading shelf-edge promotions like BOGOF where they have the wrong-sized packs on display, so you don't get the BOGOF. You have to be so careful.
It isn't helped by the often innumerate people who are stacking shelves. I pointed out to one young man once that their 4-tin 'value' pack of tomato soup was more expensive than 4 x individual tins. After the third attempt, he still couldn't understand my point.0 -
Morrisons are notorious for till errors so always check receipts. They say you should check before leaving store too and I have had difficulty getting problems rectified later. A few months ago I was charged for 22 packs of nectarines at £1 each when I only bought 2 and because I went back the next day they were very awkward about it. I had to speak to the manager (who looked about 12!) but did eventually get a refund. So beware!0

I have been subjected to 5 instances of overcharging at 2 Tesco stores. All have involved bogof items or 2 for 1. I contacted Tesco who offered me a £10 Tesco card (whatever that is) I declined as complaint was not made in order to profit, but to point out what I believe to be a deliberate policy by Tesco to cheat loyal customers. Tesco went from profuse apologies to terse no comment when I stated I had passed info on to local Trading Standards. Have many people had this problem of blatent overcharging0

It would have been scanned twice then, if it was on the receipt twice.
A shop assistant told me yesterday that the scans they use now on checkouts are so sensitive that even if their hand just shakes a bit as they put the item through, it can end up twice on the receipt (even if it only "bleeps" once) !
She said the increased sensitivity is to get people through the queue faster - but makes these errors much more likely.
Of course the stores have no incentive to change this - gets more people through the system faster AND more likely to lead to overcharging = more profits for them (am I cynical or what ???)0 -

Agreed I've stopped using tesco except for a handbasket of goods, as doing a shop they are forever miss-pricing on the shelves and double counting on the tills, don't like the fact discount only appear afterwards and not at the actual item.
I've had one error total in the last 2 years (shop once a week) at morrisons0 -
I always check my receipts, especially from Asda!
I bought come kinder chocolate from Asda and had noticed the yellow sticker stating they had reduced the price. I used the self scan tills and the chocolates were scanned at the original price and not the reduced price. So I paid and went to Customer Services to get a refund and the gift card. They gave me a refund for the difference but said they no longer give gift cards if you are using the self service tills.
One thing that I have started to do is check the use by/best before dates on food. I bought a 6 pack of crisps from Asda and only after eating two packets of crisps did I notice that they were 3 months out of date!0 -
We bought a game in Tesco yesterday, as we were walking to the till I was telling my husband about the double the difference policy and that if a price is ever wrong, to query it after you've paid for it. So, he pays for this game and it scans through at £40 instead of £25, thank god I had just told him that or he would've said something! We paid, then took our receipt to customer service and got £30

I shop at Waitrose and have done for some years, and I can honestly say I have never had an error at the till. Everyone jokes that they are expensive but they are not.....they just have expensive 'posh' items for those that want to buy - which I never do. They price check with Tesco. I went to Morrisons with my daughter when I was visiting her and many of the regular weekly basic items I buy were dearer.0
