How much have you saved by checking receipts?

About a year ago I started checking my receipts and I'm frankly amazed how many times they are not right (in the shop's favour). Supermarkets are the worse and, recently, I've noticed that sometimes an item has been scanned once but has registered twice! It happened again today in Asda - I'd been charged twice for a pack of beer. (They refunded the extra plus gave me a £2 gift card).
Last week, I picked up a similar error at Tesco's (refunded immediately, but no gift card from them ... )
So - my question is: to all of you who regularly check your receipts, what's the biggest error you've picked up before leaving the store?
My record to date is: £10.85 (a joint of meat) in Sainsbury's.
Can anyone beat that one ?
(PS It does make me wonder how much extra money stores make through this mistake, as I would guess that most people won't check their receipts until they get home, if at all ?)

A lot I think about 1 mistake every 3 visits to Sainsburys Local. My mate thinks I'm crazy when I'm stopping the queue from advancing any further when I stop it and ask for 50p back. Then the manager has to be summoned and we are standing around looking like idiots for a minute or two waiting for the manager to turn up and approve the refund. It's my 50p if they didn't make the mistake in the first place there would be no need for me to hold up the queue. It's usually missplaced yellow stickers causing them to scan the original price rather than the new price or SEL's that haven't been removed from the day before or even BOGOF's of different products such as salt and vinegar crisps and then cheese and onion crisps not recognizing each other are in the BOGOF.:footie:

Mine was over £20, but I did notice (obviously!) before I paid. Lad on till had to check the receipt to see if it was right though.
The clutz had put 23 of an item through when I only had 2.
I do check my receipts all the time though, it drives my husband mad

I do check my receipts every time and although I haven't noticed any till errors Mr M are the worlds worse for stocking shelves with different items to the ones on special but without removing the special label price so you have to be vigilant to check you have the one on offer. Every time I have been caught out I have returned the item to customer service for a full refund and every time they blame the customers for putting the items back in the wrong place.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

The one to watch out for at the moment is Aldi. They've started putting 50% Off or 30% Off stickers on short dated perishable foods, but unlike all the major supermarkets, they don't place the sticker over the barcode. The system relies entirely upon the cashier noticing the sticker and making a manual price adjustment. I've now been stung on 4 reduced items going through at full price. I wonder how much "black profit" they're making from all the people who don't check their receipts?
They really should make it their policy to place another sticker over the barcode as a safeguard.0 -
I bought 2 reduced items in Tesco, but they came through the till as full price. Waving my receipt I got my 60p refund, and as Tesco give double the difference it was increased to £1.20.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0

I got fed up of having to go back to Morrisons when checking my reciepts at home so now I religiously check them before i leave the supermarket. At least 10% of the time they are wrong and always in the shop's favour.
Another one is the Coop, only today I got charged for a large baguette instead of a normal one. They always ask now if you want a reciept (they say its to save paper) I always say yes please if I'm buying more than one item.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Yes, I got some Hot Cross Buns with a 30% off sticker last week, and they went through at full price. Not a lot of money I know but all these little diddles add up.
I was even stung at the garden centre earlier this week but didn't check the receipt till the plants were in the compost! The assistant had rung one small plant up at £2.20 and it should have been £1.20. Too late to do anything about that one but it's another place I shall be more vigilant and check the receipt before I leave!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. You should have been refunded DTD (double the difference) - sometimes you do have to 'remind' customer services.0 -
Why is it too late? I take empty packets back to the shop to get a refund. They don't mind.TravellingAbuela wrote: »Yes, I got some Hot Cross Buns with a 30% off sticker last week, and they went through at full price. Not a lot of money I know but all these little diddles add up.
