How much have you saved by checking receipts?

Many year ago I worked for a large company and any shopping I did I had to put through a scanning machine and check against the receipt. I would say that over half the receipts were wrong now i always check the receipts and always ask for a refund if its wrong.New to comping 11/2/2013

I love checking my receipt in Mr T's, so far I have had a few free things off them, including an expensive iron that I would NEVER have bought full price and a George Foreman grill. It has saved me a small fortune over the years. I also like mistakes in Asda because, even if the error is only a few pence, you get the £2 gift card - often better than DTD in Mr T!What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Last week I rushed round Aldi picking up a few bits. As you know they rush everything through the scanner straight into your basket, then mumble the price you have to pay. I put my card in and just noticed that the amount said 65 pounds, just as I was about to put my pin number in.
I said this can't be right. She checked the receipt on the till and one of the items had scanned through as a vacuum cleaner for 49.99 !!!! Think it was a packet of biscuits costing 49 pence. lol.
My actual shop only came to just over 15 quid. In my hurry though I almost put the pin number in and probably wouldn't have noticed till I got my bank statement, by which time I would have lost the receipt.
I am definitely going to be more vigilant in future.0 -
When Aldi first opened years ago they had the most stupid system ever, the cashiers had to memorise every item in the shop and input the price,no scanning at all,on your reciept all you got was a long list of prices no item description at all,i stopped shopping with them until this stupid practise ended. The one to watch out for at the moment is Aldi.0 -
£35 worth bottle of whiskey at Christmas (Christmas pressie) at new Tesco's. They've put it through twice.
I noticed immediately as I only had a bottle of whiskey and 3 bottles of wine, he told me total and I went "hooow much???". Then I regreted it, as always before when I paid and noticed after they refunded me double... :-)0 -
I always check mine now in the shop, last week it was £4 over in Farmfoods, they were very good and offered me a refund or £4 worth of items which I took.
In our house we have a system of keeping all receipts til the end of the month, this is due to me being monthly paid and OH being weekly paid, we then split them as I chose not to have housekeeping and we don't have joint accounts.
Surprisingly Asda is one of the worst for overcharging and sometimes just have 'goods' printed against some items it can be hard to work out what you have bought,if you don't check it straightaway.
I don't really use Asda anymore but do use the other supermarkets and always check.0 -

Ever? An entirely standard system in practice by everyone for a great many years.0 -
I must say I am disappointed at the content of this thread. From the title I was expecting a commune of hippies regaling us with how they used specially honed fine-liners and magnifying glasses to phreak supermarkets.0

I am stringent with my receipts, especially after a big shop always checking my receipt before I drive off (saddo I know).
I brought two £4.99 childrens books in a bogof offer on Mr T's around a month ago. When I got back to the car, I realised I had been charged for both so went marching back in and the lovely lady at customer services refunded me for both! So I got the refund of £9.88. Me being the honest person I am, asked her why, as I was only expecting £4.99 back, but she told me that it is their policy if it is their own mistake, then they refund the whole lot. I was very pleased, so I ended up with two free books. Lovely! The opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
