  • Has anyone noticed checkout assistants at Tesco are not always giving the correct clubcard points for using your own bags? I know it's only 1p a shot, but soon mounts up over a few months of weekly shopping. The last time this happened, the assistant only gave 1 point though I had used 10 of my own bags. I asked her why, and she said this was the new policy as customers were "abusing the system"! Checked at customer services, no such policy, and my points were added. (Go easy on me, this is my first ever posting )

  • And here I am posting again to the thread I started ...

In Wilkinson's yesterday bought some gardening stuff including 2 lots of plant pots (5 in each lot) and was charged for 3. Luckily, I spotted it right away. I tried to be polite, but the cashier got quite impatient and insisted it was right, and then realised her mistake. No apology of course.

Now I'm at the stage where if I get through a week with NO mistakes, I'm pleasantly surprised ...
  • Hardly anyone seems to check their receipt or the change given which just shows what a low regard people seem to have for their own money!

I think it's also that people are SO busy these days that everyone is just rushing onto the next Thing To Do. And it's not as though supermarkets encourage shoppers to linger once on the other side of the tills; in fact, I've found it's quite difficult to do so - that space is narrow; there are always people trying to push past with trolleys and bags; very uncomfortable. (I usually have to find an empty till to do it near). Once we've paid, it's all about getting us out of the store as quickly as possible - and I guess if you're tired & stressed, it works ? :(

A while ago i was in tesco and bought the multipack funsize chocolates for a kids birthday party. i picked up another couple of things on route to the checkout while trying to stop 3 kids under 3 going in different directions!!! when i got to the checkout packed everything paid by card and rounded up the children.
on my way out i just noticed the total on the reciept. the sweets i had bought were ment to be 2 for £5. but they went thru at 6 pound something each. so i went to the customer services and she was great she called somone and he went and checked the price. the sweets had been put in the wrong place it was the smaller bags that were on offer but because it was their fault they refunded me the total then doubled it and i ended up walking out with about £15. my friend wasn't very pleased when i told her about my bargain.
 dont know what im doing!!!

For the benefit of anyone travelling abroad this summer, I was warned by a friend living in France, that there appears to be a varient of this being fairly widely used in some supermarkets. Whilst you are engaged packing your goods, the till operator will either enter something completely different which will not appear on your collecting end of the conveyor belt or double enter one (or more) of your items.

I was dubious about this but actually experienced it when I checked one of my receipts which showed a pack of ham which was certainly not one of the items purchased that day. Unfortunately, it was too late to do anything about it - but it clearly does happen, although it's still very difficult to check at the time.

Similarly, here in Morrisons recently, I was in a queue and was not paying a great deal of attention to the guy in front but at one point the till operator seemed to enter one item twice using two passes of the same item - difficult to be sure with all beeps from tills sounding the same - but when I checked my purchase of 5 bottles of ginger beer, she had entered 6, all individually scanned. I complained but was passed to customer services who refunded the excess without question. Unfortunately the guy in front was long gone.

I can't see how this would benefit the operator but have wondered whether there is a gain to be made somewhere - apart from by the shop. Anyone any ideas?

Maybe we should all pay attention to what's going on in front while waiting our turn and do a good turn by picking up on any double entries etc. hoping the same will be done for us?

My bf works with Aldi and has to memorise a massive list of products. They don't *have* to learn them but to hit the target number of items through the till in an hour, they have to memorise them as they'd be too slow without knowing them. It's so stupid. Quantity over quality.

wow, that's interesting - I always say that the till staff at our local co-op should do a week's training at Aldi or Lidl, as they are working at the speed of a snail on dope and I love shopping at Lidl and find it really funny to try and be faster than the person at the till (I don't always manage).
Funny enough, all tills in Germany work at the speed Lidl does here. If any supermarket staff would work at the speed the Co-Op does here, there would be a riot!

I picked up a bunch of "bags for life" last time I was in Germany - nice cotton bags which are widely available for free over there, so I was considering using them for shopping next time at MrT for the extra points, but I am wondering if it is worth it?
The reason why I am asking is, that I use all my shopping bags as bin bags. If I start bringing my own to the supermarket, I'd soon be out of the free ones and would have to buy bin bags - so, do I get more on my club card than what bin bags cost?
Quantity used is about 2 3rds of bags are needed for the bin per shop.

I'd say use them! If you're anything like me, you will easily use 10 a week at the VERY least (you don't have to fill them up, just 'use' them.)
That's £1.20 worth of deals points a month. How often would you buy bin bags and how many bags could you reuse for shopping?

ok - I am on a strict £35.00/week budget (including cat food and non-food items), so I usually manage about 3 bags a week....

That's one thing that confuses me..how do they know how many bags of MrT I would have used compared to my own bags? I mean, I should be fine, as these cotton bags from Germany are the same size as a Tesco Plastic bag, but I see people use the big things from Sainsbury's as well, and they hold at least 5 of the Tesco bags? Also if I buy drinks, I need to use one plastic bag each as they are so flimsy that they break otherwise, but I would put 2 or 3 into the cotton bag?
I find this all very confusing....
