    Just bring ID.

On the application form, it just ask you for your income and employment status. The amount of income doesn't matter for basic bank accounts. By the way, you will not be credit scored.

Since you want a VISA debit card, I would suggest a Barclays Cash Card Account (don't be fooled by the name). This account is normally opened by post (they will give you an application form to take away). Say that you want the account details urgently, so they will do it in branch. You will then leave with account details.

Good to hear that everything has been done in branch!

Not sure why the personal banker has asked other questions though. Probably trying to sell you some stuff.

    Hey guys,

Why is the Barclays Cash Card account recommended much more then the Barclays Bank Account? Whats the difference?

    Thanks
  • The Barcclays Cash Card Account is mentioned more due to the fact they will offer the account to people who do not have a great credit history / low income. It has all the usual banking facilites, direct debits, standing orders etc, however it does not offer a cheque book or overdraft because it is a basic account. You can choose to have a Full Visa Debit Card on the account if you wish.

The standard Barclays BanK Account is for people with a very good / excellent credit history or higher income. Its a full blown account which subject to status can provide overdraft and chequebook along with the full Visa Debit card.

Basic Cash Card Account is mentioned more as the criteria to open a Cash Card Account is not any where near as strict as it is to open a Barclays Bank (Current) Account.

    Hope this helps.

The Cash Card Account could be for people who don't have any credit history too, or who are on benefits.
