    There is only one Fiona.

It's the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society. It's available on their basic account. You would have to ring them as it's not listed on their website anymore. You don't get a debit with the account though, just an ATM card.

If you are after a cheque book, I would open a basic account with the Abbey and upgrade the account. This should only take around 3 months, it will upgrade to an Abbey account. You will receive a cheque book then.

    I HTH.

I wrote on this thread a week ago re opening a Barclays Cash Card account and today I got a letter stating it was declined, I was even advised by someone at Barclays that should the application be declined he would overturn this and i've been advised that this is simply not the case.

I thought this account was open to everyone so long as you were not BR or had a record of fraud??

    BarclaysManager can you advise??

Just thought I would let you know that I gave the C0-OP a call today and I was told that my account was opened on Friday and I will be receiving details in the post this week ;)

That's great news, congratulations, Scouselad .

Got my Co-op visa electron card today and the pin number should arrive in a few days :j.

Happy days are here again :D.

    Good luck.
  • Hi! A newbie here.

I have just been made Bankrupt (March) and my current Bank Has frozen my account over the weekend. (It was a Basic Account)

Today I handed in my Bankruptcy Certificate as requested, in order to release my funds held in my account, and the account was closed - due to my Bankruptcy.

Today I made enquiries at three different High Street Banks about opening up a new Basic Bank account and was refused by all three.

My question is:- Is it possible to open a Bank Account when you have just been made Bankrupt, and if so which Bank is prepared to accept me as a customer.

If I can't get a Bank Account - how do I get my Housing Benefit, Incapacity Benefit & Occupational Pension paid to me?

Many Thanks in anticipation of some help?

    HI there

Yes, are you near a Yorkshire Building Society? They do an account with no actual credit checks; only an ID verification check.

You can have benefits paid in etc, also do standing orders and DD's.
I was recommended this by the OR. You can have an ATM card to get cash out at. It isn't a debit card but you could always get a pre-paid Mastercard/Maestro Card for online shopping.

Oh yes, it's called The Cash Transactor Card;)

If you want an account with an Electron card try the Cashminder with Co-Op Bank.

Did you do this in branch or by post?

Check your credit file to see if you have a CIFAS (i.e. fraud marker) on your credit file. It might be that.

I don't think BarclaysManager looks at this thread. Therefore, you should post in this thread for help, which is for Barclays Cash Card Account: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1145251&highlight=barclays+cash+card+account
