Thanks for the reply.
I telephoned Barclays and got a call centre overseas initially and the advisor never knew what a trust deed was so i telephoned again and got a really helpful advisor called Michael who explained to me that the trust deed will not effect the opening of the account as there are no credit facilities available.
He even gave me his direct number should the application be declined and he could overturn this and give me my sort code and account number within 24 hours.
Superb service so far0 -

You're welcome.
Good to hear that you will be eligible for an account. Forgot to mention that, this account is available to undischarged bankrupts. Therefore, I do think people who have a Trust Deed/IVA will be eligible.
I think it's a good idea to post the direct number on here, so people could use it for appeals.I assume you used the following number: 0500 007 234 before you were redirected to the nice advisor.
This account is usually applied by post, but could be opened in branch too. However, when you say this account to them, they will automatically give you the form and post it. This will take a long time for the account to set up. Therefore, open it in branch. Say to them you urgently need the details, so they have to open it in branch, and you will leave with the sort code and account number.0 -

Yep that's what I did - they opened the account for me there and then. I am now bankrupt and Barclays are letting me keep the account as my official receiver has no interest in it - so I don't see you having any problems opening one at all unless Barclays are a creditor of yours.
Good luck!
Cheers

Thanks everyone for your advice, after carefull consideration, hours of searching basic accounts onlineand a reccomendation from a friend, I opted to go with the CO-OP cashminder account, basically because of the fact that payments can be deposited at the post office, which is really handy for me as I don't have many branches near to where I live.
Anyway I applied via telephone today, strange as it was a bank holiday  I confirmed that it was the basic account that I wanted with no over draft etc and gave all of the details required, at the end of the conversation the guy taking the application submitted my application and it came back as, refer to undewriters for a manual decision, I was told that this would take 3/4 days, does this basically mean that I have been refused or is this normal practice, I don't have any defaults as yet or missing payments, apart from say one or two that where a few days late this month.
Same here. Just want to thank everyone who contributed to this thread. I finally decided to apply for the Co-op cashminder. Called them on Friday and was told today i've been accepted. The paperwork should be in the post tomorrow. :j
It's already been said in this thread, but just to repeat, if you're applying clearly state it's a cashminder account you want. The Co-op agent asked on a few occasions if i wanted an overdraft, cheque book etc. But i made it clear i only wanted a cashminder account. I know 100% i won't get a 'standard' account so there's no point in applying for it and possibly jeopardising my application. Anyway, just be sure to spell out what it is you want.
Don't worry Scouselad, my application was also referred to underwriters. It seems like a standard thing they do. I think you'll be ok. Good luck.

Hi
I had a similar dilemma, I was about to open a basic bank account with bank of scotland, until I discovered they were part of Llyods, I have an debt with BLS Collections who are Llyods debt collection department. It's amazing how many banks are linked together these days, how about trying the co-opDMP mutual support thread member:3270 -
Co-op Cashminder and Barclays Cash Card account are a good call if you don't owe them any money. Co-op comes with an electron and Barclays with a visa debit (despite the name).BR 08/04/09 | ED 02/10/09

Lloyds and Citibank are not related.
The following banks have a basic bank account with a debit card:- Barclays (Cash Card Account)
- RBS/Natwest (Step/Key Account)
- Co-op (Cashminder Account)
- Yorkshire/Clydesdale Readycash Account are good basic bank accounts.

Sorry Scouselad, made a mistake. I actually applied last week Wednesday and was so impatient that i called them on the Friday for an answer:rolleyes:. I didn't really think they would come to a decision that quickly but i just couldn't wait.
At the time the agent i spoke to advised to call back on the Tues/Wed of this week and they should have a result by then. Even when speaking to him he asked again whether i wanted an overdraft etc. He was nice enough though.
You can give it another few days and call them or you can wait for a letter from them giving their decision. I don't think they actually call you with their decision.
Let us know how you get on. :beer:0
