I had a coop cash minder account for the past 9 months and they closed my account because I went under by a few pence - but it happened twice in the space of 2 weeks.

If you look at the table in this leaflet, you will see a number of banks offer a £10 buffer zone.. which might be useful if your calculations are out by a few pence..

Gotta consider the convenience of "hole in the wall" too here folks, I mean yeah CitiBank might be a good bank to join but where have you ever seen a cash machine for CitiBank? I know I never have, its all RBS/Natwest/Lloyds etc. If you draw money from another banks ATM they charge you don't they? Sod that! I am not paying a bank to look after my money, they should be paying me.

Very few banks actually charge you to use a ATM... It's normally the ATM owner that charges you, ATM's in corner shops etc.

You can use a Citibank card in any LINK ATM.

The only basic bank account that has ATM restrictions that I know of is LLoydsTSB that only let you use their own.

  • Hi,
There are nine credit unions now offering current account services, with VISA debit, SO and DD facilities:

Capital Credit Union – providing services to people living or working in Edinburgh, Lothian and the Borders
Glasgow Council Credit Union – providing services to public sector employees in Glasgow
Hull and East Yorkshire Credit Union – providing services to people living or working in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire
Leeds City Credit Union – providing services to people living or working in Leeds
Scottish Postal Workers Credit Union – providing services to postal workers across Scotland
Scotwest Credit Union – providing services to public sector employees in the West of Scotland
Southwark Credit Union – providing services to people living or working in the London borough of Southwark
Voyager Credit Union – providing services to public transport employees across England and Wales
White Rose Credit Union – providing services to people living or working in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

If you look on the abcul website or google them you should find contact details.
    MF

I have this account through the Voyager Credit Union and thinks it's quite good. I was accepted for a full Visa Debit card even though I'm in the middle of a IVA agreement.

The account is actually run by The Co-Operative Bank on behalf of the Unions, and today I ran a little test and found that you can deposit (and withdraw) money at the Post Office, And like the Co-Op Cashminder account, Money paid in at the PO is available instantly.

The only downside is office only Telephone Banking, and no Internet Banking (yet!), Although you can see your overnight balance online.

  • I opened a basic bank account with the co op two weeks ago, you get a visa electron debit card. I do not have a good credit rating.
Ive also applied to citibank but did not have a personal cheque, to send off, so I sent some other Id. Does anyone have any information about citibank or any other banks which offer basic acccounts, with visa cards.

Does anyone know how connected Clydesdale and Barclays are?

I've got really bad credit arrears and arangements and owe Barclays about £12k, the CAB advised me to open a new basic bank account which i've struggled to do and finally after trying loads of other banks got a readycash account with Clydesdale.

But now i've gone to payplan to try sort this mess out and they've told me that Barclays and Clydesdale are connected and I need to open a new account......But i've already tried all the basic ones on here that everyone has recomended and i'm starting to panic.

Has anyone with Barclays debt ever had a problem with Clydesdale?
