Can you tell us what problems you've had using your card to pay for things over the phone?

I've used mine to pay for all sorts of stuff by phone and never had a problem!

Hi. To be honest I have never actually used it over the phone because when i opened the account, it said in the paperwork that the card was for face to face/internet transactions and cash withdrawal, not payments over the phone, so I went by what was said and have never tried it. My partner has had a visa electron with the same company and says he couldn't do transactions over the phone either-and he had tried with his card.

There shouldn't be a problem, Unless the retailer/company don't take electron full stop. Amongst others, I have a Electron Card from the Co-op on their Cashminder Account. I've paid my car insurance, Sky, Mobile phone bill (three) and the order line with Tesco Direct.

    Give it a go! :)

Hi everyone. I want to open a basic bank account to have my wages paid into as I am sick of natwest who have informed me theyre removing my student overdraft in the immediate future.

I have read all of this thread and am still slightly confused as to which one to go for. Obviously the Yorkshire bank readycash has been given the thumbs up and this is the one Ive thought about going for. Has anyone been rejected for this account? I have a shoddy credit record due to my wild student days! and I am worried about going into the branch and being rejected.

Also what type of i.d do you need to take with you? Would a current passport and recent mobile phone bill suffice?

Any recomendations / advice would be greatly appreciated

  • Hi everyone,

Im not sure if im in the right thread for this but i'll ask anyway.

My partner and i want to open a joint account with his bank, he is with HSBC and has a debit card with his account, and i'm with Nationwide and just have a basic cash card.
My building society refused my request for a debit card, even though i have no debt, ccj's etc, and i have regular money in every week.
What i want to know is if we open a joint account with his bank, how would the card situation work out, would we both get debit cards or one of each.
Just want to find out first before we make a decision.

    Many thanks.

  • Does anyone know what ID is required to open a RSB Key Account? I just applied online & have been accepted in principle but can't see what ID I need & I don't yet have my passport

When you make a deposit in the bank, do any of you get hassled by the staff for upgrading accounts and stuff (one staff member actually held the cheque back from being cashed in, and got another member of staff to pester me).

Shouldn't be allowed, not like they ever improve your situation when you talk to them...

I currently have an Additions account with Barclays bank, having being massively overdrawn, I now have the money to pay this back. After the attitude of staff at a call centre, I just want to close my account and be rid of them.

I do need an account however so I can pay my company expenses into it. The way it works is that my expenses are paid for by me via a credit card, I claim this money back each month from work, this money gets paid into an account, I then use this money, to pay the credit card.

It sounds like a basic account is ideal for me, I don't want an overdraft, or credit facilities, I just want money to get paid in, which I can then transfer to pay the credit card bill each month.

I just wonder if a bank would let me open an account that in effect, will have money going in, then straight out, and not really earning them any money!

Hi Carly, I was recently turned down for this RBS account at literally the 11th hour..

I had a numnber of letters confirming the account (and savings account) we're opened etc and I got internet log in details, confirmation of my sort code and a/c number everything I even got a statement, which did say 0.00 balance then closed on it... The next day I got a two lined letter saying through their final checks I had been declined.. :(

I have however just confirmed a Halifax EasyCash account, you get Visa Electron, Net banking and DD / SO facilities... Trust me if I can get this account ANYIONE can....
