Does anyone know how connected Clydesdale and Barclays are?
I've got really bad credit arrears and arangements and owe Barclays about £12k, the CAB advised me to open a new basic bank account which i've struggled to do and finally after trying loads of other banks got a readycash account with Clydesdale.
But now i've gone to payplan to try sort this mess out and they've told me that Barclays and Clydesdale are connected and I need to open a new account......But i've already tried all the basic ones on here that everyone has recomended and i'm starting to panic.
Has anyone with Barclays debt ever had a problem with Clydesdale?
I think they have got it wrong as Barclays and Clydesdale are not connected. Clydesdale Bank is a part of National Australia Bank Group and Barclays is a separate entity altogether.0 -

I think payplan were going down the line that they are connected via woolwich. And since i've found it impossible to open another basic bank account, I might have to stick with Clydesdale anyway.0 -
confusion can be because:-

Clydesdale Financial offer loans, hire purchase etc and are not linked to Clydesdale bank but are owned my Barclays[/SIZE]0 -

Not even after I pleaded and showed proof of income and took in copies of credit file showing no debts - mortgage only, nowt else!
So following on from folks commenting about Yorkie Bank, phoned up my local branch on Monday morning, had an appointment Monday afternoon where I signed various bits - and she was quite pushy but knew when to stop (ie. when I told her to!!) -then walked out with some bumpf an hour later.
Thursday, Maestro card arrives and letter for internet banking registration.
I simply cannot fault that service, way beyond anything I've had in the past, and I've had accounts over the years with a lot of them!!!
Oh, and the internet banking works properly, unlike Nationwide which times out for me when trying to transfer money to an external account. Been nagging at them to fix it for months, plus I'm not alone on this either!!
Transfer time from Nationwide to YB? Transferred £500 On Tuesday, in YB on Thursday when I logged in for the first time. IF to YB, transfer on Tuesday, in YB on Friday.
Excellent stuff!!!! Open an account today
It's funny, I've held a Nationwide Flexaccount for roughly 5 years and have recently been refused an upgrade. I'm not asking for credit or an overdraft - just access to my own money.
My account has been in tip top shape from start to finish. I have a good wage going into my account every month and surplus money at the end of each month.
I rang my branch and was told that with the debit card account comes other priviledges such as an overdraft and there's no 'in-between' kind of account.
This wouldn't bother me too much if it wasn't for the fact that every time I went in for a bankers cheque for my solicitor when I bought my house 3 months ago, these people seemed desperate for me to take out house insurances with them.
Anyone out there who doesn't own a debit or credit card will know how frustrating it is to have to pay everything by cash or a bankers cheque. On one hand, the restriction has meant that I'm less likely to impulse buy which is good, but on the other, I often take surpless money out of the cash machine to make sure that it covers my shopping bill and so spend extra that way.
I have sent off for my credit files and although I know there's history, my rating will most definately improve significantly in the near future. My career is taking off, I'm almost fully qualified and look forward to a significant pay rise in June. I told Nationwide this, but of course they won't budge and told me that all other banks will turn me down for a debit card account.
I've just been accepted for a Capital One card at quite a high interest, but my intention is to use it as I would a debit card for groceries and petrol and ensure that I pay it off each month as soon as I get paid. The only problem with this is that Nationwide are still winners as they still have my custom - or at least that was what I thought until I read about Citibank on this site!
I made an online application last night and I have my fingers well and truly crossed that I will be accepted.0 -
Hi guys new to this forum so hello!
I just wanted to say that I was struggling to get a bank account and was turned down by Yorkshire Bank for a readycash and by natwest for the step account.
I used guaranteed finance centre they're a notprofit company i think and i had to pay a fee but they got me a maestro card and account with RBS! which is amazing coz I was doing everything with cash!. I can't find their proper site but you can get access to it from:

Cheers guys and good luck. :j0 -
I managed to get a co-op basic account with a visa electron card-enabling me to pay for groceries, petrol and other such stuff, the only thing you can't do with the card is make payments over the phone, you can withdraw funds from cashpoints and post offices. i find it really convenient and you can't go overdrawn.GE 36 *MFD may 2043

And even if you have only cash card facilities with your Flex, it still means no extra charge for cash withdrawals abroad. Capital One is a wise move as well (with hindsight I can tell it was for me). One more thing - if you are accepted for a new account, don't close the old one - it is still handy for financial applications where the institution likes to see some history of relationship.iaye carramba!0 -

Sounds like a bit of a con to me... I too can guarantee pretty much anyone an account with a debit card (without specifying what sort), a cheque book (whilst saying "A cheque book will be issued in 90% of cases") and i'll do this for free (and i've posted more than once)spreading the MSE love0 -

Can you tell us what problems you've had using your card to pay for things over the phone?
I've used mine to pay for all sorts of stuff by phone and never had a problem!
