The banks use faster payments these days. Transactions are expected to arrive by the end of the next business day, although in practice they're much quicker than that, often instant, and almost always with 2 hours.
There's no business connection between Co-op and Nationwide.
If it's the first time you've made that payment I'm surprised you didn't have to use your card reader0 -
My friends after a basic account with debit card facility so she can order online. Her ex left her recently with loads of debt and has debt with Natwest and another one...can't remember.
She's had to go on JSA so awaiting for that, so would like it set up quickly.
Can anyone advise?

Thanks pmduk, thought I was jumping from the frying pan into the fire for a moment there!
@PP... I would recommend the Nationwide basic account. I've only had mine for a few weeks but it was easy to set up online and the card and pin's came through quickly. All good up to now. I've had a Co-op basic for a few years. It's been ok but with all the bad press lately I'm jumping ship! Also, if you read back in this thread it may be possible to upgrade the Nationwide basic account to a normal current account in time. Something the Co-op definitely will not do!0 -
Clare why on earth are you jumping ship...?Proud to be a member of the Anti Enforcement Hobbyist Gang.:D:T0

Don't trust 'em. I had the nationwide one set up anyway so might as well shift everything!0

Hi just wanted some advice on getting a new bank account. My partner and I are buying our first house together, we want an account we can both pay into every month for mortgage and bills. We're happy to do online banking and want to keep our own accounts at the moment so we can save and have our own money.
Any help/advice?
Thanks0 -
Hi,
I too have just signed up for a Nationwide Cashcard account. Very simple process, but I have 1 question... At the end of the process it told me my application had been successful & I would just need to send them the required proofs of ID. Do I have to mail this to them or will I be able to take it into my local branch? as I really don't fancy sending off my Passport & driving license etc & trusting them in the hands of Royal Mail :-s ... Thanks0 -
Mark, I wasn't asked for any ID??? I would take them into the branch though, surely they can accept them there and take any copies? Worth a try! I'm going to double check my paperwork now and make sure I haven't been asked0

I haven't received any paperwork yet, it was just on the screen at the end of the application when it tells you your application was successful ;-)0

Hi, I notice on the Basic Bank Accounts page on this website that it states that Barclays Card Cash account offer a Debit card and state that no credit checks are carried out other than an Identity Check.
This is not the case to BEWARE, I have just opened one to transfer our spending money each month into (food, petrol etc).
I asked for a Debit Card (as you can request this or a Cash Card).
Well Cash Cards turned up not Debit Cards as requested.... So I phoned them and well it turns out that we did not pass the CREDIT CHECK to have a Debit Card so they sent Cash Cards instead.
This account is now useless as we live out in the sticks and nowhere near cashpoints (my other half does not drive and we have a large order of food shopping delivered once a month) to us AND we now have a CREDIT CHECK showing on BOTH our credit files.
Thanks very much. :mad:0
