  • I work for a company in Prague and I live in the UK. I get paid by CHAPS every month and the bank I'm with (Halifax) charges me £7 every month to receive my pay!

Anybody know any accounts that won't charge/will charge less?

    Cheers

Hi me and my wife both had an account with Halifax me 1year+ but my wife over 7years+ with them and Out the blue they closed my wife's account without notice or a letter and would let her transfer her funds that were in there at time due to to my wife being disabled and wheelchair bound she's unable to get to her local branch of Halifax in Hayes Middlesex were was told manager there would help sort this issue out but no manager helped didn't want speak my wife was meant to be resting as had a spinal op so needed to be bed bound and I'm her sole carer 27/7 I can't just leave her plus they need her with Id etc but was told muffin to why my wife's account was closed but early that day my was able to use her bank card to pay 2 bills online no problem then couple day afterwards got a letter saying they did a credit risk assessment and we she felled the credit check for a non credit facilitated account she had her dla payment going in, my cares allowance aswel, and our joint income support. Then a couple days later they closed mine for same reason I dint mind mine so much as debt use it as I deal with all nine and my wife financial affairs. But my wife's finding it hard to get an account with a different bank etc we got joint account with nationwide but it's a cashbuilder account she needs one we're she can do direct debits and standing orders as u gotta pay for giro payments at hsbc £5 or free if bank with them or need a flexaccount with nationwide to pay for giro payments for either 3 bill, capitalone Bill etc. Plus she and I do online shopping with asda or Tesco as unable to go to shops everything so have to rely on my father which is unfair.

You should certainly apply for a copy of the information held by the Credit Reference Agencies as soon as possible (Equifax, Experian and Call Credit), and most importantly the fraud database CIFAS. Something must have alerted Halifax in order for them to take such drastic action with both of you.

I don't think we can provide links but google with bring up the websites for all those organisations.

    Good Luck.

Hi, does anyone know of any bank accounts which won't charge a person to receive a payment/salary from an international company?
    Many thanks

It depends on what you want to do with the account. eg, do you want DD facilities, a debit card etc? For some people a savings account may be sufficient.

I've just transferred some money from my Co-op basic account to my new Nationwide basic account online. The money has appeared in my Nationwide account instantly. I was expecting it to take a few days??? Am I missing something? Are Nationwide and Co-op connected in some way? I wasn't even asked to use my Co-op card reader thingy when I set up the transfer???
