right, can someone advise? I have seriously bad credit, from around 3 years ago, defaults/missed credit card payments/bad overdrafts etc, but I have no CCJs or IVAs etc. Probably owed around £5k between 5-6 companies.

Unable to get basic account with:

    Natwest
Barclays (defaulted on Barclaycard about £300)
    Santander (don't owe these money)
    Co-op (don't owe these money)
    HSBC (don't owe these money)

    Waiting to hear back from:

    Nationwide

    Is it worth looking at:

    Yorkshire Bank?
Metro Bank? (Nearest branch 300 miles away, but will travel if I won't be refused!)
    CitiBank

    ///
I have aprox £4000 in cash on hand, and a salary payment of around £2000 every 4 weeks. My total outgoings are only around £700pcm.

Used to share an account with my partner, who is now an ex. I'm now unable to get another bank account!

My employer is happy to give me cash for up to 3 months, but this will mean me having more bundles of £20s under the bed, which I'm a bit shaky about. Get paid again this Friday. Employer is a major international PLC, so all legit.

I've got a good income with low outgoings - lots of surplus cash available. Considering some forum members seem to be on the verge of bankruptcy and able to get an account, what's going on and how can I fix it?

I'm not on electoral role, but I have plenty of government issued ID and other documents.

    Thanks

Unless you need DD facilities, you may find it easier to get a Building Society savings account.

I managed (tonight) to get a Tesco Instant Access Savings account, which comes with a Visa cash card (cash machines only), but it can't accept wage payments, (or if it can, it is against the accounts terms).
We can’t accept wages or salary payments directly into your Account.

Do Building Societies have this rule?

Many building societies can accept salary payments.

If you are in Manchester - try Bank of Baroda or State Bank of India (reviewed here - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3347272 )

Metro Bank's cash account does not permit direct debits or online transfers and their young (new to banking ) female staff are too busy eyeing up fit men to serve customers

  • Do you know if Natwest customers will have to wait for their current card to expire before it is replaced with a visa debit card?
    Thanks

Do Building Societies have this rule?

Coventry Building Society's CallSave Money Manager

It has a cash card, allows direct debits, standing orders and salary deposits
  • Thanks for the responses, much appreciated.

I wrote a letter to the co-operative asking them to reconsider their position, attached a recent payslip as well as detailing my financial circumstances.

Received a letter this morning stating that my application was approved in principal, with just ID formalities to resolve, and all I needed to do was to attend a branch with my passport & driving license.

Finally, anyone know how I can find out if I have a fraud marker on my credit file? Although my credit is bad, I don't think it is bad enough to be refused basic bank accounts from banks that I have never dealt with before, (or their parent companies etc). The other thing is that I'm on the electoral roll under a pseudonym due to special circumstances.
  • Applied for CitiBank account and received a letter today saying I had been provisionally approved for a CitiBank Plus no overdraft current account, with full banking facilities including a cheque book, worldwide travel insurance and additional USD and EURO accounts, with no card charges abroad.

No account fee either as I would pay in more than £1800 pcm.

So long as I'm not rejected after sending my declaration back, it is looking like a winner. :T

All bank accounts that have intoaccount when assigning dividencos, do not include the World Bank by law 16/1995.
