So just phoned up and opened a cashminder account, have to go into my nearest co-op or britannia branch (1m away from my flat :) ) to verify ID etc. 10 days to receive paperwork as it's Christmas.

Didn't once try and sell me a current account.
  • Hi,

We have got a basic bank account with Nationwide at the moment but they have shut our local branch so I was thinking of getting the basic account with hsbc instead

Has anyone got any experience of hsbc basic account? also i have a credit card with mbna on our dmp - does anyone know if they are linked to hsbc?

    Thank you, merry xmas!!

Just done the same. did try and sell me insurance on the phone but didn't need it. Very helpful in the branch too. I got my card a week after supplying the ID and am nearly ready for online banking.

Very easy to set-up and no hassle.

Went into my Britannia branch and they have sent everything off for me. Looking forward to getting my card etc so can sort of my wages and say goodbye to natwest as my main account.

The 10 days to recieve paperwork was actually one day. Wondering I'll received everything else by the new year.
  • I have just started a DMP and need to open another bank account. Can anyone reccomend one. I have been to natwest (who where really unhelpful) and HSBC. But they only do cashcards and I need an account with a debit card so I can use it online. I have read co-op is good, but can anyone reccomend any others? Thanks

How long did it take people to recieve their card etc from the co-op? I went into a Britannia branch just before Christmas and had them photo-copy my documents including my letter and that was it. I assumed they sent everything off.

Could some recommend a Basic Current or Savings Account that I can open with the least fuss that
has a debit card, and will allow a few gambling transactions.
I don't need an overdraft as I won't go overdrawn on the account.
    Thanks.
  • I've just opened a new bank account with Barclays (just their basic one with no monthly fee) and they want me to send a cheque in the post along with my signed forms.

I was wondering what the minimum amount for the cheque can be? £1?
