I am looking for some help re basic bank accounts I have tried most of the banks but universally failed on all fronts. I need my own account so I can get myself a property to rent.

I am not bankrupt and never have been I am not in an IVA yes I have credit problems but I am am manging those.

I have got my credit report from experian and there is no fraud marker (that I can see unless I have missed it)

To be honest I am getting fairly desperate it is causing me so many problems but do not have a clue how to resolve it.

Any pointers would be much appreciated

    Thanks

Still hoping for some advice thanks
  • When it comes to Basic Bank accounts with the following you can get around the 'Bank Only ATM' issue by opening the following Savings account which comes with a Cash Card/Debit Card for use at any other ATM's - You can transfer any money required via Telephone banking or Internet Banking.

Lloyds TSB - Open the 'Easy Saver' Account which comes with a Cashpoint Card on request:
    http://www.lloydstsb.com/easysaver

RBS - Open the 'Instant Access Savings Account' which comes with a Visa Debit Card:
    http://www.rbs.co.uk/personal/savings/g1/instant-access/savings-account.ashx

NatWest - Open the 'First Reserve' Account which comes with a Visa Debit Card:
    http://www.natwest.com/personal/savings/g1/instant-access/first-reserve.ashx

Don't forget, you could also use another provider of your choice if they allow you to have a ATM/Debit Card with the account as Lloyds TSB/RBS & NatWest all allow Faster Payments now meaning the money will be available to use in a matter of moments to withdraw (Max 2 hours).

Also, don't forget that most Supermarkets/Shops also offer you the ability to obtain Cashback without having to visit a Cash Machine in the first place.

Hope this helps people out a little! :T

Hi. The information about the Natwest First Reserve account is interesting and not something they've made me aware of. I have a basic bank account with Natwest and have just come off the phone to them about the changes. Basically they gave me two options; pay a monthly fee to upgrade or be restricted on cash machines. I've already got a First Reserve account with them with a debit card and they never mentioned that this card wouldn't be affected.

Hiya. Not quite the same as a bank account I know but is there a Credit Union near to where you live? My local credit union has an account that you can have your salary or benefits paid into and you can have standing orders paid from it too so it might be worth looking into that?

Same ! I Applied on Saturday and have recived my welcome pack and Debit Card today.

Anyone looking for a basic Account should most certainly give Co-Op's Cashminder a try ! Fantastic Service, Although you have to do the application over the phone, they are extremely friendly ! Something you don't get with a lot of banks !

Well for some existing Customer they have left Santander due to all the problems the bank seem to have i don't know if you would have the any problems with them but i do have a Paypal MasterCard credit card that Santander provides and i have no complaints it just seems to be just the bank that got some problems give them a shot thought.
  • Hey everyone. Just wondering if anyone knows the minimum deposit on Basic Accounts? specifically HSBC.

Also, can you make bank transfers with these basic accounts? Do all providers let you do bank transfers or just a few?

    Cheers everyone.
