Hello I am looking to open up a joint basic bank account as we are sorting out all our debts and have an overdraft with santander (we deal with our creditors ourselves so not in a DMP)
A couple of things we have no ID between us I can possibly get bank statements my DH just a joint bank statement that he has no card for any help to witch one to apply

Also can I have a savings/other account to put money in for clothes emergencies etc linked to that account.

Might be worth trying CO-OP for a cashminder. You have to call them but it isn't too bad a process on the phone. They asked me about my previous account details with another bank, which I assume they must have used to verify my ID. They have not asked me to send them any ID to complete the application.

When it comes to Basic Bank accounts with the following you can get around the 'Bank Only ATM' issue by opening the following Savings account which comes with a Cash Card/Debit Card for use at any other ATM's - You can transfer any money required via Telephone banking or Internet Banking.

Lloyds TSB - Open the 'Easy Saver' Account which comes with a Cashpoint Card on request:
    http://www.lloydstsb.com/easysaver

RBS - Open the 'Instant Access Savings Account' which comes with a Visa Debit Card:
    http://www.rbs.co.uk/personal/savings/g1/instant-access/savings-account.ashx

NatWest - Open the 'First Reserve' Account which comes with a Visa Debit Card:
    http://www.natwest.com/personal/savings/g1/instant-access/first-reserve.ashx

Don't forget, you could also use another provider of your choice if they allow you to have a ATM/Debit Card with the account as Lloyds TSB/RBS & NatWest all allow Faster Payments now meaning the money will be available to use in a matter of moments to withdraw (Max 2 hours).

Also, don't forget that most Supermarkets/Shops also offer you the ability to obtain Cashback without having to visit a Cash Machine in the first place.

Hope this helps people out a little! :T

  • I am looking for some help re basic bank accounts I have tried most of the banks but universally failed on all fronts. I need my own account so I can get myself a property to rent.

I am not bankrupt and never have been I am not in an IVA yes I have credit problems but I am am manging those.

I have got my credit report from experian and there is no fraud marker (that I can see unless I have missed it)

To be honest I am getting fairly desperate it is causing me so many problems but do not have a clue how to resolve it.

Any pointers would be much appreciated

    Thanks
  • Hi everyone,

Hope you can help. I have recently opened a bank account with RBS (Royalties Gold), I also have a loan with the bank of £5,000. However, the branch is being sold to Santander - wasn't told about this when I set up the account or took the loan!?

I was wondering effect this could have on my account and loan - I am assuming that my loan will not change as it was a legally binding agreement. However, I am concerned about the level of services, rewards etc that I will be able to use with Santander, as the Royalties Gold account has a lot of benefits such as discounts on travel, hotels, restaurants, etc.

If anyone has any advice, or knows if there is another forum for this issue the I would be very greatful!

If you call 0800 210 0214 between the following opening hours: 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 4pm weekends and Bank Holidays.

You can ask for your accounts to be transferred to a scottish branch to avoid being sold to Santander.

If you opened the new account within the past 12 months, and the account is based at an English branch, then if you opened it via telephone or at an English branch, I believe that you should have been informed of the prospective sale of the branches.

If you want to remain as an RBS customer, as already mentioned by stclair, you can request that your account be moved to a Scottish branch of RBS, the process to transfer accounts has just begun for those who have already requested a transfer.

Also read the info about the branch sale from the RBS website : http://rbsbranchinformation.co.uk/?DCMP=ILC-SearchResDivestTxt

  • Hi guys

i already have a yorkshire bank "cash transactor account" which does not let me pay on card in shops etc.

I get my wages paid inot it and just have to get cash out.

I wanted to know wether someone with bad credit can get the yorkshire bank ready cash account as i would love to be able to pay on card again without having to get one of the top up type cards.

Please can anyone let me know if they managed to get a readycash account!

    Thanks

The Cash Transactor account is offered by Yorkshire Building Society who don't currently offer debit cards. The Readycash account is offered by a different company, Yorkshire Bank (no relation). You can go to any High Street bank most of which (NB but not all) offer basic bank accounts with debit cards. There's a list of accounts with associated facilities here.

However the details need updating to show that the accounts at Natwest and RBS have changed and now restrict you to using only their own cash machines.

I have had a look on the their web site and it allows me to request an application, so I did this and then phoned them up and they say you can fill it in and post it back, but I just wanted to make sure as I have no local branch.
