  • Oow thanks pmduk glad I didn't apply and harm my already diabolical credit rating!!!

    Thanks for the advice :-)
Some debts are fun when you are acquiring them, but none are fun when you set about retiring them!!! :(

It's amazing how fast later comes when you buy now!!!!
  • hi all, after reading loads on the internet with regards to this the RBS came up the best account for basic (key account). i made an appointment at the branch to open it and they confirmed they do no credit check and you get a visa debit card also. it will allow dd's and so's.

after doing my 'in bank' application i was even approved a current account. so i took that. im in debt from 3 yrs ago and havent had an account since. my debts are all outstanding and i would not pass a credit score!!!

so RBS are tops for me!!! hope this helps re the no credit check needed... but go in branch to apply with 2 id's.

Natwest issue 2 different Visa Debit. One is Blue & doesn't work at the pump, one is Purple and works everywhere.

Correct...The blue one is a full authorisation card...exactly the same as the Solo/Electron cards.

The purple one is a full debit card 'servicecard' that can be used offline such as pay at pump etc etc. I

Finally had my Natwest Step account details through and i've been sent a blue card.

Can i ask for a purple one??

The purple one comes with the Current Plus account and you will be credit scored if you want it. You may be able to upgrade after 6-12 months of good conduct of your Step account.

    Hi,

Banks have got lots and lots of criteria to provide us with loans. But when it comes to need we go for all the banks and fulfill all the requirements. But just imagine we get our required loan without much or the issues and fuss. Then our only sttopage is payday loan, which provides us with small loans, without any issues.

It also provides you with extortionate interest rates & gets far too many desperate people into debt because they are not designed for long term loans like a bank loan. Why are you advertising payday loans in your signature anyway? :(

A friend has just has just had Barclays basic bank account application returned to him, because the branch staff made an error in certifying his ID documents, Why should an applicant sort out the Bank's errors? I may be cynical but they're just trying to be difficult.

I had mine returned because the advisor in the bank didnt put her employee number on when she signed my ID copies, that was 2 weeks after applying, I took it immediatly back into the branch and have since then been waiting almost 3 weeks,

They dont seem in a hurry to process applications

We ended up having to go back to the branch as anything after 2nd March is to be opened in branch. If you really want Barclays then go back in and ask. Personally I'd go elsewhere if they're this bad at opening an account, what will they be like when they have your money. Alternatively if you wanna check what's happening call 0800 015 4996

Hi, I would greatly appreciate some advice. My husband and I are not great with money, however we are paying off our debts, albeit slowly! we had an account with co-op, just the basic cashminder, however they notified us that they were closing our account just before christmasas we had hit our '3 strikes' once for having 3p too little to pay a dd, once because we got the date wrong and once because a creditor took their payment using our debit card on an unexpected day. Although we pleaded our case, the account was closed and since we have been unable to open another basic account. we went to the yorkshire bank, they didnt even have the courtesy to get back with a yes or no. I also tried the RBS, online, and was happy to receive my application pack which stated I only needed to hand in my id to get my account details. I did this, then received a letter 2 weeks later saying they were refusing my account following further checks?? I am now reluctant to try anywhere else but need a bank account with dd facility. at the minute our income is being paid into a smartsaver co-op account which only has a cash card, and i am then loading money onto a prepaid mastercard, which costs me in fees each time!
In amongst all this, I have passed a credit check with virgin for their tv/broadband, as well as a contract mobile and also have a catalogue account up and running which i am using and paying off significantly more than the minimum each month
can ANYONE suggest anything? I do not want an overdraft etc, just an account with a debit card and dd/so facility!
thanks for taking the time to read this

Have you tried the Barclays Cash Card account? Or the Halifax Easycash account? The former comes with a Visa Debit card and the latter a Visa Electron card.

I tried the halifax one as you can do it online, and got a letter asking me to send off proof of id. As this is what happened with the RBS i am reluctant to send things off again, only to be turned down. I am not, nor have been bankrupt or had an IVA, and as far as i;m aware i've never been accused of fraud; i just have trouble with not enough income and too much outgoing! (i'm a student nurse so money is tight)
I dont want to have to keep being turned down, as it will not help my credit rating?
From reading here though, i think i will go into a barclays branch, and ask them!
    thanks :)
