The Barclays website has a lot of the ID you will need. Take that in with you and make sure they know it's a cash card you want to avoid them attempting to upsell you.

I tried the halifax one as you can do it online, and got a letter asking me to send off proof of id. As this is what happened with the RBS i am reluctant to send things off again, only to be turned down. I am not, nor have been bankrupt or had an IVA, and as far as i;m aware i've never been accused of fraud; i just have trouble with not enough income and too much outgoing! (i'm a student nurse so money is tight)
I dont want to have to keep being turned down, as it will not help my credit rating?
From reading here though, i think i will go into a barclays branch, and ask them!
    thanks :)

Go for the basic bank account, so you won't get turned down.

Barclays only want one piece of UK photo ID (passport or driver's licence for example). No need proof of address.

Some branches will open the 'Cash Card Account' in branch, while some don't. If you do get to open it in branch, you will get your account details on the same day. If you can't open it in branch, they will give you an application form, which you will fill in and post it with the envelope provided (make sure you have stamped photocopies of ID and address by the branch staff before sending it off).

Actually applications sent by branch to Leeds to be opened are now being returned to the originating branch for them to open. This changed on 2nd March.

The account brochure in my possession states that they need one piece of photo ID to prove your identity (there is a list of alternatives) and another piece of ID to prove address.

The brochure said if you produce a UK passport or driving licence, no seperate proof of address is needed.

I got into financial trouble in 2008 and needed to move from my HSBC current account to a basic bank account. Even though I was under a DMP with Payplan I was able to open an account with the Yorkshire Bank. I must say that they have been really good and treated me like a normal person. I had some fraudulent activity on my account and they were extremely good as resolving this and issuing me with a new card. If you are in financial difficulties the best piece of advice I got was open a basic bank account with a bank who is not one of your creditors. The FSA has a list of basic bank account available by the banks as a download on their moneymadeclear website.

Perhaps we're using different editions of the brochure or even different brochures? Page 8 of the Cash Card brochure dated 11/09 gives a list of ID to prove who you are. Page 9 is headed "In addition,to prove who you are we need to see just one item from this list". Whilst a driving licence is included in both lists, it goes on to state that the address proof used must be different to the identity proof.

well as i dont have a driving licence or passport, i just took a load of bills, ctc forms etc. I sat for 20 mins at barclays to be told there were no available appointments, could i come back in a couple of days! i did tell the lady that it was just the cashcard one and she said to apply for the bank account, and if i got turned down i would get the basic one! i only want the basic one anyway and dont want an uneccessary search if i can help it! anyway, i have an hour long appt tom morning so i assume they will try and open it in the branch, i also showed my docs to the lady i spoke to and she checked which ones were suitable so hopefully, this time tomorrow i will be in possession of an account!

All they will do is check your ID and countersign it in the branch and help you fill out the application form. They will then post it internally on your behalf and the details will be sent to the bank once your account has been opened. Basic bank accounts aren't opened in branch normally.

from reading previous posts i thought that the account would be opened there and then and i would receive account details the same day? i do know of friends who have opened the RBS basic account, the key one, in branch and they have been given their details straight away?
