1 and 3 show substantial rust to the lower coil, the powder coat has come off and it won't be long before they go the same way as the fronts.

So, it seems that the front two have rusted and snapped off, and the rear two are on their way out also :(

I have no choice but to get all four replaced then.....

I had to help someone when their Fiesta snapped the Driver's front near my house. Low mileage car, never abused.

From my experience, it's got nothing to do with the state of the roads, and nothing to do with abuse.
It's purely crap manufacture - In the 70s-80s road springs didn't just snap so often that it was COMMON to replace them, and I doubt the roads were much better.

Fiestas, small Renaults, VW's and Saabs tend to be the most afflicted for some reason. Not sure whether it's due to a design fault with the spring seat or whether it's down to supplier quality control or material choice.

in the olden days they used to taper the ends of the spring and use a different composition of metal to make springs from wich was expensive for the manufacturer and the customer.

these days its all about saving money and buisiness gains, cheaper the metal cheaper the coating bring cheaper productivity and more gains in sales due to more demand.

    LOL @ asbokid!

Here are a couple of bad photo's of under the car pointing at the rear left, then rear right wheels. Can't take any of the front wheels as I'm not a contortionist! It's definitely the springs the pieces are from, although probably the front 2 wheels.

Apologies again I couldn't get any of the front!

And if anyone is in doubt of what can happen when one off those decides to shed a coil, look how close they run to the tyres.

They break off like raptor talons:eek:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Quite.. shoddy components.. Get aftermarkets.. You won't beat the price of those lowering springs.. £70 delivered for all four is very cheap. As for the labour, it's the sort of job that a lad could do with reasonable supervision. 20 minutes on each corner.. £50 total.
