a good garage should do front springs in less than an hour. where i worked 2 of us changed all 4 springs on an astra in 40 mins. to change springs we charged 80 quid for all 4, labour only.0

Meh. 18 year old Mercedes C-Class - all original parts
And it is meant to be one of the ones that wasn't built as well!
OP - As soon as you said about the CD skipping etc this was on the cards. the car must have looked lop sided for a while! You are lucky though, neighbour's Saab broke both fronts in the space of a few weeks. The first time they limped home, the second was higher up and the car just came down onto the front wheel and have to be recovered. You've been lucky really!
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Snapping springs seems to happen more often on modern cars. Like people said they used to last a lifetime on older cars. My last car was an Audi A2 and snapping springs seemed to be a common fault. I think it happened on other similar VAG cars such as Polos and Ibizas as well. Everything is made more cheaply now isn't it.0

It is very bad that a 7 yr old ford should be rotting through like this.
I have had plenty of fords, the earliest was a 68 cortina mk2, never had to replace a spring or shock on any.
How many miles has your [STRIKE]shed[/STRIKE] car done Rochdale guy ?
Only 33,000. Had only done 5,000 miles when I bought it..0 -

LOL! I believe it originally belonged to an old man from Humberside - his mobility car (hence being automatic).
The only thing it's failed me on before has before a duff battery, which the AA replaced on a breakdown (which was just as duff!), plus the whole left front headlamp had to be replaced and relaligned at its last MOT.
I'm worried my it will collapse when out driving it now.0 -
