Get annoyed with parents

I still ruffle my boy's hair and straighten my daughter's top or push her fringe out of her eyes......they are 22 and 24....0

Say something now, be blunt and if she asks who you think you are havign a go at her tell her you're doing it because you're worried about her health being affected by getting so stressed out over all the trivial little things that bother her and are worried she'll end up with high bliid pressure or having a stroke...
or you could go with shouting "I don't believe it!!" every time she complains about something trivial - but make sure it's done in the style of Victor Meldrew.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Your poor mother probably gets stressed by having YOU back home. I mean when you are home she probably has more to do? Maybe she does your washing or your ironing or your cooking and the cleaning and the gardening? She is responsible for so much and perhaps your super laid back attitude really gets to her? What do you do to help her?
Oh and there is nothing more stress provoking than being told by your kids to take a chill pill! Do you have any idea what might be going for your mother? It could be she has money, work, family, health concerns, she might be going through the menopause? A bit of compassion would go a long way and a bit of caring for your poor mother like the way she has cared for you?I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
You could always join in? You might enjoy it!!!
Start in the morning by moaning about the size of the cornflake flakes, and you're SURE they used to be bigger. Perhaps moan how NOISY cereal is, and that all that crunching is giving you a headache so early in the day...Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
it's a parent thing..... go with it and let it wash past you. fighting it isn't worth the pain involved. adopt the nod and smile approach or just be neutral rather than agreeing and potentially reinforcing it more. it's easier on the phone as you don't have to control your facial expressions!:happyhear0

I hear ya OP. It's my MiL who drives me round the bend though, always sitting about moaning about her various twinges and 'ailments'. She spends far too much time looking through the Medical Book of Doom and self-diagnosing, when she isn't in the doctors trying to get other diagnoses. Lord knows I love her, but it sure is frustrating when most of her 'problems' can be solved with a proper diet and a little exercise.:wall::p
I don't get annoyed any more with my own mum, she's mellowed out now she's got grandkids to play with (my sister's kids). Plus it's kinda hard to get annoyed with someone who you won't see for a year or more.Dec GC; £208.79/£220

I understand totally..... you're describing my dad !!
He's in hospital at the moment and is much worse than usual. I dread visiting hours, if he's not moaning about the 'filthy cup of teas' he going on about how 'filthy the food' is !! I snapped last night and said he can't be that hungry because he would have ate it !! Then he'll start moaning about the other people on the ward, talking very loudly. My hour is spent listening to ruddy doom and gloom. Oh and the best bit is when he starts praising my brothers when they've not even visited him once!!!!0 -
I remember feeling a bit like that when I came home from my first year at uni - I had been the perfect teenager who always did her homework and never got drunk or took drugs or had unsuitable boyfriends, and then when I came back for the summer I was a complete brat, as much as I hate to admit it, because I'd got so used to the independence and the freedom of university life. I was helping around the house but I still resented things like not being able to do what I wanted and being treated like a child again, which sounds terrible now but was how I felt at the time. It did settle down a bit once I got a job though because I had something to keep me out of the house.
That said I moved out three weeks ago and it's only now I'm appreciating how much she did for me, so I agree with the poster who said just grin and bear it for now. Maybe don't go back so often if it bothers you that much?"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
