    Now I'm really confused!
With all that you say is wrong with them, you will accept a replacement?

No Birkee, I am NOT asking him for a replacement. Read my post again.

I think that you will find Oliver that de minimus applies in this instance..
Ahh no it doesn't as you have Silver plated in Title and appears Silver in listing so your description isn't even consistant as well as being wrong. But hey didn't think you would take advice anyway.

As for your obsession with this seller. The bit you seem to have trouble understanding (i'll explain it simply for you) is all anyone has on this forum is your word that this happened. The sellers listings look fine so why would we report someone who on appearance seems fine on your word?

You can quote all the regulations you wish but it makes no difference it's your word that the seller is doing what you claim.

Soolin, as I have said, anyone can report anyone for anything on eBay; excessive postage charges, selling fakes, unfaiir T&C. Traders regularly report each other to try to remove their competition.

Ebay is a minefield for the unwary, I read somewhere that 90% of the items marked "Tiffany" on eBay are fakes, I was once sold a fake memory card.

I agree, but how does that make your selling a metal item as silver plate OK.

If I follow your argument you are basically saying sellers can put what they like...in which case you have just talked yourself out of any complaint to the seller of your PC speakers.

Or are you saying you are special and are allowed to misrepresent?

Yes Oliver it is my word. Of course you must take it with a pinch of salt, after all, you do not know who I am, I could be a Professor of Law, or the biggest purveyor of tat since Gerald Ratner. However, ask yourself, why should I concoct such a story.

You say that the sellers listing looks fine, does that mean that you are happy with his T&C

For peace of mind, I offer a no-quibble replacement goods policy valid for 7 days after dispatch. If your item has a manufacturing fault, return it to me at your own cost and I will send you a replacement. Due to the possibility of buyer misuse, replacement goods cannot be provided after this time so please check the merchandise as soon as it arrives.

Do not take my word that these infringe one's statutory rights, read SOGA and DSR. and draw your own conclusions.

WRT to the silver compact, which some of you seems so concerned about, I suspect that it was in fact made in France. Given that it was a luxury item, it is most unlikely that the plate was not silver, what else would it have been, silver was not that expensive 70+ years ago.

I agree, but how does that make your selling a metal item as silver plate OK.

No soolin, my listing states that the compact is made of brass which has been silver plated. I am confident that that is what it is, but short of buying it, and having it tested, you will have to take my word for it.

I can see your listing, it states clearly 'silver plated' and as for your word..are you suggesting then that ebay relies entirely on trust and not honest descriptions, in which case once again you have just talked yourself out of your position against the seller in the OP.

You are no different to any other seller and if you think you can bend the rules then why are you so against other sellers for doing exactly what you are doing?

OP, in case you have forgotton what your listing shows the title is "Silver Plated Compact - June by Saville"

Also as someone who sells in the same category it is very unlikely it is silver plated if it is a real art deco piece. Art deco was 'modern' at the time and tried to move away from what was seen as traditional manufacturing and that includes silver plating. It is more likely to be a basic white metal and actually valuable for the name alone. By suggesting it is silver plated you may well be intimating it is a fake, as it does not conform to the usual standard expected of that brand at that time.

Your item if real should go for a lot more than 99p, but you may well be putting doubts in the minds of collectors .

Are you sure about that soolin. An eBay search for Art Deco + silver plated produces 432 items,, and a google search 2,910,000. Perhaps they are all fake!

It doesn't matter though if i am not sure as I am not the one making the statement in the auctions which is the point I am trying to make.

Are you 100% sure it is silver plate as stated?

No, I am not, but I am of the opinion that if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and swims like a duck, it generally is a duck.

It did not sell so if you want it, send me a stamped and addressed envelope and it is yours. At least that way something that was once a beautiful little trinket in a rich lady's handbag will go to a good home.

So the lady that owned it deserves a sneering reference as being a "rich lady", but when you own it, it is perfectly O.K.?

Shall I say it is now owned by some "rich idler"?

    You prejudices are showing.
