I am not asking for sympathy, I am seeking to prevent a child being killed as a result of eBay's cavalier attitude towards safety, and to ensure that eBay traders do not seek to diminish consumers' statutory rights.

I disagree that Terra's point was "extremely valid", it was unsolicited and unwelcome. I have used my own name on the internet for over 12 years, beginning with usenet, a minefield for the unwary. I have never had any trouble.

I can't believe that in al these years, one of the rudest post addressed to me happens when I'm trying to be helpful.
I've said this to many people and the normal response is to rush to edit their OP to delete their ID..... and a thank you.
I haven't got time to be rude back tonight, and I've had a really good day, so I'll let you off the hook... (oh dear I'm going soft...)

Please do not "let me off the hook" Terra, there is nothing I enjoy more than a robust argument.

This is what the rules say

If you're discussing a topic you have a professional knowledge of you can make that clear but please don't give "advice". We don't have the resources to check what you say is correct and would hate to hear something had happened to someone reading it.

I do not welcome advice on how to conduct my affairs from someone whom I have never met, and whose credentials so to do I have not assessed. What makes you think that I need your help?

I am mindful about the advice given to would be lion tamers about first familiarising themselves with the bahavioural patterns of lions before entering the ring.

At the minute it is an allegedly "unsafe" product. It is unsafe only in your opinion. That opinion is important, but I am afraid for companies and authorities to take action it comes behind people like chartered electrical engineers and other experts. Trading Standards will have such experts availbale to them so if they say that it is unsafe action can and will be taken.

    Best wishes

Mistral I think that we can agree that it is more than allegedly unsafe in my opinion, . Read this

All manufacturers and importers are required to ensure that electrical items they supply are fitted with UK three-pin plugs with the proper fuse.

here is an idea. dont buy cheap electrics off ebay. go to a shop, yes it may cost more money but it saves a lot of hassle if something is wrong.... AND your chances of getting blown up are slim.

Interesting! So it seems that it does not comply with UK national standards. Was the product shipped to you from abroad on sent from a UK based firm?

The Deep, neither my Macbook Pro/iPad/iPhone or earlier iPods have EVER come with a 2 pin to 3 pin adaptor....the MBP came with a magsafe and adaptor for using the longer cable, and my iPad/iPhone/iPod have come with the USB cable and a plug adaptor....so something there is erronerous....this I know, cos they're sat in front of me.

OP, if the product isn't safe for use and TS know, you'll need to contact the seller to return the item stating why. It might also be an idea to not post your eBay ID, as more information can be gleaned from it that what you might like to have known about in a forum.

Elfin, did you not read the OP! It clearly states that the speakers are with Trading Standards. How therefore can I retun them to the seller? I am also somewhat surprised that you presume to offer me advice about how I conduct myself after my reprimand to Terra for doing just that.

Mistral, it is my opinion that I have proven, without a scintilla of doubt, that the plug supplied does not conform to U.K. regulations, and the adaptor, safe or unsafe, should not therefore have been supplied with the speakers.

Please tell me why you think otherwise! Think deeply before replying.

The Deep. Have you informed the seller that the speakers are faulty and are with TS? Can you provide a letter that states they are faulty and not to UK standards and this is why they have them? As you may not get very far without concrete evidence to show to the seller. And yes, I DID read the OP, which is WHY I am now asking you this....Are you this narky with everyone who tries to help?
