ok, then how the hell do Kwik Fit justify £350 for the same job?0

If buy some chance it was a flexible brake hose, again it more than likely would show signs of cracking on the outside although internal failures are not unknown. However a single flexible brake hose will cast the garage no more than £10.
Metal brake pipes do corrode from the inside unfortunately. If the car owner hasn't kept up with brake fluid changes as recommended, then the fluid will slowly absorb water from the air. This then slowly corrodes brake lines and they eventually burst or leak. If the cost is for a metal brake line replacement than I think this is fair as a new one will have to be made up most likely, and can be a bit of a pig to reroute and replace.
Rubber hoses can perish and you're right, it should be obvious if one is old and on its way out, but hey can also collapse internally and causing a ballooning and swelling which can burst. As you say though a flex hose should be about £10 to £30 max and shouldn't take long to replace.
People also have to remember that the MOT is only a visual inspection of the car for the 30 minutes that it is in the garage. Anything the tester cannot see wont be checked and they cannot lift up carpets or coverings to look at things. After the MOT is issued anything could fail or break.0 -

K, well got the brakes sorted only to find when I drove it home there was a loud banging emanating from the rear nearside wheel (opposite side to where the pipe was replaced) - back to the garage, mechanic can't work out how it happened, but I think it must have been Kwik Fit - grr. Another 65 quid later..0

No idea, something was grinding on the inside rim of the wheel and causing the noise - he said it may have happened when it got towed, otherwise a complete mystery.
Perhaps I've just got gullible tattooed on my head...0 -

why wouldn't he tell you what the "something" was?
might just have been a stone or a pebble.
perhaps one of the mechanics sabotaged it, to create extra work, or even to bump you off.
oh well, you got it sorted.0 -
Have you still got kwik fits list of brake faults. If so could you list the prices of some of the jobs or did they just give you an overall price?0
