Ooh I know what you mean :o I still cringe at the fact that I chucked up on some guinea pigs at a party whilst under the influence of that stuff :o - call myself an animal lover too :o:o

Sorry but I am :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: at this. Never been sick on an animal though thankfully. Have lain in the middle of someones living room floor spread eagled (I was wearing my clothes before anyone lowers the tone ;)) and a bit out of it after drinking cider. I believe that was the last time I ever touched the stuff. Pity I didn't stop there but I just moved on to bottles of red wine. That wasn't a pretty sight either :o:o

What are you having done (and how much is it approx - if you don't mind me asking)

I've had 3 quotes, all for £4000 - to swap loo and sink, replumb the whole lot because it's a mess apparently, fit a shower, then either swap baths or fit shower enclosure, remove old tiles, replaster muck underneath if required and retile. (Parts are from mixture of Bathstore and B&Q) Quote for supply, fit, test, and 2 yr guarantee on work)
everything ripped out, electrics redone, new subfloor, underfloor heating, new lights, extractor fan, loo put in (so major work to put in a soil pipe and break into the drain), towel rail moved, floor and most of walls tiled, new bath and basin, possibly new larger hot water tank, new taps (not new shower), ceiling and walls skimmed. Bear in mind I live in the SE I'm tring to get it all to come in at under £6k and not take more than a week as the chaos will be too much for me!

Excuse me jumping in from my lurking position....Having just done our wet room the company in Kettering were very good and we got ours from them. We used Miller for our fittings and although expensive were far superior as regards quality. I guess it's what you want though as our home is now our forever home and we wont move unless disaster strikes.

thanks Molly. The tiles look good, but I'm just not sure whether I can pick tile colours without seeing them. However, I may order samples ... When i've worked out whether they come within my budget!

I've got these for my shower downstairs but in a different colour. There showroom is lovely (watford).

DH home with one very sore eye still, bullying him to go and get them looked at tomorrow.
the tiles look lovely dusty :) tell DH thqt as he can't drive with a dodgy eye (not safe and will invalidate his insurance), you'll either take him to the doctor or to the emergency eye clinic... His choice....

I've also been looking for new beds for the spare room as a. Mine is apparently uncomfortable, b. Its a divan and I'm sure the spiders live behind it and c. I think a daybed or single with a trundle under it would be better... However, I have a very narrow spare room (203cm). So why do most websites specify the mattress size but not say how long the bed frame is? I need to think whether I can rearrange the room, as the wardrobe is starting to disintegrate...

Dora - it's not just teachers who need to reclaim their Sundays! I think most of us need to find a way to recover our work/life balance. I suspect in many cases it is down to personality, as there are some people who manage to work the hours they are paid regardless of the job, and others who will work excessively no matter where they work.

We've been looking at our workload management recently and pointed out that the way it is structured leaves no time for meetings or admin or travel... Which is why we are all struggling. As for breaks :rotfl::rotfl: most of my colleagues take holiday to write presentations and do admin on weekends if they aren't travelling :(

Agreed Greenbee but there is a particular sunday night culture among teachers (well the ones I know personally) and it has been really getting me down as realistically I am at my slowest on a sunday and then the work takes too long so I stupidly stay up late which then starts the whole week off badly and I never seem to recover. I don't mind working some time in the holidays as I usually do but am planning to get really ahead of lots of faffy bits this summer so that my sundays can be my own again - I NEED pamper time and chill time more regularly (then I will look and feel gorgeous)

Thanks for that Greenbee - sorry if I was too nosey.

Seems like mine is a little too expensive - because mine is much less complicated that yours, and I'm in the SW which is at least 15% cheaper. I will see if I can get a couple more quotes just to make sure!

I would get some samples, because it looks like it's nice stuff :)

If you'd been too nosey I'd have told you :D some of the other quotes were much more. One of the companies that came round had never seen a bathroom so small and came up with something beautiful, expensive and way over the top for my house!

Dora - my colleagues and I generally spend Sunday evenings checking our diaries for Monday, prepping for any meetings and dealing with anything our colleagues have done over the weekend so it is ready for them on Monday morning. They think it just our company... And all the medics i know think its just doctors, and all the self-employed people think its a self-employed thing. What i've learned from the fact that most of my friends and colleagues work on Sunday evenings (and most other evenings) is that we have a global culture of putting work before life. Even in Germany, where it's supposed to be church, children and cooking that come first for women, the rigorous legislation on workers' rights is often ignored. I kow someone who was owed 3 YEARS pay under german law when he changed jobs! Employers are using the current economic climate to justify pushing emloyees to the limit and avoid recruiting, but forget that we're more use to them alive than dead. The saying in my company is that it won't kill you, but it won't stop you committing suicide... Which is why I plan on sticking to my 5 year per employer limit... They get a good deal for what they pay me and I owe them nothing.

Thanks Greenbee - he wouldn't drive don't worry, optician is in town so he'd bike/walk. He cycles/trains to work and may see if you can pop into Morefield which is my preferred choice. It was a work charity thing he was on so I'm afraid work will have to cope without him tomorrow IMHO.

I really need to work out how to take time off from doing endless chores/eating frogs. Trouble is I get bored if I'm not doing stuff or feel guilty. I never would sit and read, only in bed before sleep/upon waking.

Right I must put some bits on ebay and then put DS3 to bed.

This is so true but please remember that the work will still be done whether you are there or not. It only takes a couple of weeks when you move on for people to forget what you did for them.I have started to stop myself and think, what would happen if I didn't do this? What is the worst thing that can happen. I then remember that I am not a brain surgeon or a fireman or some other of the rescue services so nobody will die because I am not overworking (unless of course it is me).

Well said Cheri... And you're more likely do die of overwork than not overworking :D everyone likes to feel they are indispensable but luckily for us we aren't (at least, not at work!).

Must stop looking up medical stuff online... I KNOW there is next to nothing about my condition out there so it won't help and I'll just have to wait for the GP to call me back and find out what the consultant thinks about the side effects. Let's hope he doesn't increase the dose.
