I AM 3 DAYS CLEAN OF CIGARETTES. I know thats no major achievement really,

    Fantasia xx

That is totally a major achievement Fantasia! Everybody has to start somewhere and each day leads to a week, each week to a month etc.

When I gave up, I told my sister. She asked how long and when I said three days she laughed. I have never forgotten how hurt I felt as for me the three days WERE an achievement. It is not easy and anyone who hasn't smoked probably doesn't realise how hard it is to stop. It is an addiction and to break that addiction is a constant commitment.

I have been smoke free for 15 years now, and yes I am one of those hypocritical ex smokers, who moans about the smell etc but I would never put down anyones struggle to give up.

BTW my sister was a smoker too, she had given up for about two months when I told her that I had too. Fifteen years later I haven't touched a cigarette, fifteen years later and she is still smoking! Who had the last laugh? :rotfl:

Thrify - I aspire to be a wise woman but have the sense to keep my gob shut so that people learn for themselves. Having been far to keen an eager to share nuggets of good info in the past and being lambasted as a 'superior know it all', my current learning is how to know lots and only share it with those who are willing to listen and do something about it for themselves ...

Woo hoo, that took a bit of getting out of my brain!!! I had a 'falling out' with my sister and her family at new year (so much so that we haven't spoken on the phone since and er, they fell out with me rather than the other way around). It seems that one of the major issues was that I would visit and offer advice where it wasn't needed (and I thought we were just having conversation...) Thankfully, I have good friends and have woven my 'support parachute' quite well over the last couple of years.

My only remaining thing I am dealing with is the sadness that I am not really part of their lives any more (maybe I wasn't, weven when I thought I was). It is such a shame since they are all I have and I love them dearly. However, if they don't appreciate me for who I am, then have I really lost much???

    Re-lurking ...

Hurrah for Cricket, especially Fantasia and MrF,
Hugs to all who need them,
Big hugs for me as someone who needs to work on FROG eating ... getting there millmetre by millimetre ;) (s'OK really, I am used to taking myself kindly by the hand ... another, independent bu**er who doesn't ask for help in case people say no and feel like I have been rejected from the netball team AGAIN ;))

    Good afternoon

Been out since 8, (dentist with Mum) took my knitting with me and sat in the waiting room knitting squares, 2 ladies were watching me, and said I was doing very well :) seen as how I struggle to use one arm and that I have adapted to make it easier for me ( instead of holding the needle in my right arm, I'm finding it easier to put it between my knees and hold the needle that way :0 I was getting some funny looks lol.

Went to morrisons on the way back for packed lunch stuff for the week. Spent £18 so not bad for lunches for 3 for the week.

Rice pudding is on in the slow cooker (had milk to use up and I hate wasting stuff)

Just catching up on here, emails etc, then I'm going to finish my square, then sit at the sewing machine for a bit.

FANTASIA - 3 days is a massive acheivement :) you keep posting, your doing well.

MG way to go on the mortgage payment :)

I'm doing quite well with the boiler money, although DH hasn't put any aside for his half yet :( So I'm just wondering whether to just keep plodding on for the boiler or use the money to pay my CC off.
    Boiler pot £30.92/£1000

Fantasia congratulations on being an ex-smoker! Seems to me that this is your Lightbulb moment on the subject, so from here your days clean can only increase! As for sharing on here - I for one shall be positively disappointed if you don't! :D

NL Sharing the story about your sister must have taken some courage - thank you. I sympathise - several years ago I had a falling out with someone who I had previously thought was my best friend. Seems perhaps I was wrong, as over the time since I have realised that in actual fact the falling out seems to have been very carefully stage-managed, and there were evidently holes in the friendship long before I realised. That realisation hurt almost more than the falling out did in the first place if I'm honest, as I felt as though I had, in a way, been conned, and allowed myself to be so. Ironically it was that same person whose husband introduced me to MSE so I still have a lot to thank him for, at least! The thing I underestimated completely was how long it would take me to begin to get over it - in a way something like that is almost a grieving process as you have lost the person almost as completely as though they had died. :(

Crickett your weekend sounds good - I think you need to be able to relax a little on the food front at weekends anyway and you did plenty of exercise by the sounds of it. I take it with the exercise you are remembering to give yourself rest days?

Fell off the wagon a little with food last night but it wasn't altogether unplanned. Can't remember whether I reported lunch, but that was scallops, boiled new potatoes (I actually weighed a 200g portion can you believe as I feel I need to remind myself what "a portion" of potatoes looks like) with 2 big flat mushrooms, grilled with just the tiniest drizzle of olive oil, and a pile of mixed salad. Baked lemon muffins in the afternoon and had one of those with a cup of tea, then our evening meal as cheese and crackers (planned) followed by some Korma Mix (unplanned but delicious!) :o
Lunch today has been a ham roll followed by some melon & strawberries, an apple, a banana and a lovely juicy ripe nectarine. Not going to have the chance for any real exercise today but will attempt to fit in some stuff whilst doing other things.

Must do a list for tomorrow, and a meal plan for this week and next to avoid falling off the wagon due to lack of planning again! :D

Claire just seen your post - with the knitting, view it as any other form of exercise and make sureyou have rest days otherwise the new muscles you're using will be complaining! As for the boiler - keep plodding on with it would be my suggestion, you're keeping your half of the bargain then!

I can now watch "The Secret" in peace whilst the TV is being occupied with cbeebies.

Where can you get The Secret DVD? Firewalker watched it as well and I meant to ask her.

And as for the rest of the discussions bubbling along here, I can definitely identify with the 'do it all yourself' and perfectionism ones. The perfectionism one has cost me dearly on occasions, and it's something I'm learning to deal with slowly. As for the DIY one, if I didn't DIY, things would never get done, so I'll keep with that one until there is someone reliable to palm things off onto! :rotfl:

In :money: news I am delighted to say that I have managed to buy a new laptop charger for the princely sum of £15. It's an original for my type of computer as well. The manufactuers can get lost with their demands for £69.59 (and that's cheaper than when I checked last time!) :T

NL, sorry to hear about your sister. That must be hard so hugs.

Crickett, glad you had a great weekend lovey.

Cheery, replied on t'other side, for what its worth :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Right Im on it with the food thing. Omelette with low fat cheese for brekkie and prawn cocktail with avocado, courgette and spring onion for lunch. Dinner will be smoked haddock and peas. Bit worried that I will love my breadmaker so much i will eat bread with lashings of butter morning, noon and night and be fat as a house  I love bread but FOR ME, going fairly low carb helps get the weight off so need to be careful.

Working my way through a list today and need to sort food and meal plans as part of it. Also take my recycling down (my god, the bottles ) and get some clothes to the charity shop. Ive had them on ebay and they didn't sell so off they go. They're not staying here taking up space that could be used for clothes I actually wear. No, no, no!!!

Please send me plentiful positive vibes this afternoon that I will resist the temptation to kill someone. Today is taking all my powers of self control and counting to 10.....and if I get interrupted ONCE more with something that is more urgent than the 14 urgent things I've already been given to do I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MY ACTIONS!:eek::mad::eek:

    *and breathe*

    I thank you. :o

Oh dear EH, calming vibes for you! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You need a sign for your door! (or a lock :rotfl:)

Souk, I had the same problem with the breadmaker :o SOOOOo easy to just eat an entire loaf in one go while it was still warm - especially when I'd made my own jam   Fortunately our bread maker is on the blink at the minute :rotfl:

Thanks for the replies on the other side folks, will read them all properly when I've finished this bit of work (so why am I here?? :rotfl:)
