Thriftyscotslass : pesto, with or without a tin of tuna included.
Broccoli and courgettes, lightly fried or steamed and using some cheapo cream cheese as a sauce (add a little of the pasta cooking water and a squeeze of lemon juice to make it a little runny).
Bacon, mushroom and pesto - I use the cheap bacon bits, (just buy a bag and split it up into portions to freeze and use for lots of dishes)
Smoked salmon (the 'trimmings', not the expensive stuff) or smoked mackerel.
I'll throw a few small chunks of chorizo and some onion into a frying pan and then add a tin of tomatoes - makes a variation. But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
Just popped home from work for a bite to eat (late lunch) working 12 till 9 this evening. 1st full day I've done for years and I'm loving it, stock delivery so quite physical today, but at least the appetite receptors which are opening back up due to not smoking will be evened out by the exercise. I'm gonna be a tired out person tonight, but god it feels good to be occupied, and not trapped in that god awful office talking people out there bank details for charity.
This feels more like a proper job, and its great, yay, go me woop xx0 -
Message from my Priest friend in London re the becomming a non-smoker stage.
HE says in the beginning he wanted to nibble all the time and used a trick of having a sprinkle of chilli or a shake of tabaasco to liven up every snack. He said that the chilli depressed his appetite.
Actually he may have somethig in this - you see chilli secretes a chemical that increases postive hormones in your brain (that you actually become mildly addicted to)- so there is a double whammy............................. but as a non-smoker I have no idea how you are feeling so it could just be a load of "neuroscience nonsense".
Whatever works for you hon - works for us

glad you're enjoying the job fantasia! :T :T0

fantasia... was it the old job that got you smoking again? because timing quitting with the new job might just work. It sounds as if you're too busy to find time to smoke anyway
MG - don't forget that chilli also energises you (I learnt the hard way that noodles with chilli & lemongrass weren't the sensible thing to have after the gym in the evening... it took me ages to calm down enough to go to bed!
I think I might be feeling better... 2 weeks tomorrow, so fingers crossed. Mind you, then I'll have to catch up on all the work I haven't done :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Ladies, am thinking of heading out to get some yeast and bits for my BM, any tips for a complete beginner? Apart from the obvious not being a complete pig with the bread of course!!!
I use Lidl white bread flour as at 79p its the cheapest around.
I am afraid I've never branched out further than ye olde white loaf but that's good enough for me
My recipe for this is:
300ml water (not icy cold, tepid or room temp - or is that the same thing?! :rotfl:)
460g bread flour
6g yeast (I use the sachets, I've tried Doves Farm stuff and even with added vit C powder I still ended up with a brick )
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp oil or melted butter
I only use my BM now for making the dough as I got sick of the loaf having a massive hole at the bottom from taking the paddle out.
Have fun making your own
Fantasia - Glad you're enjoying the job :T
EH - Hope you managed to refrain from bloodshed this afternoon
Managed to get through a couple of frogs, put vac round thoroughly, mopped floors, mowed back lawn and edged it so been pretty productive day for me. Have got to submit my tax return online so think I shall do that tonight, before watching the lovely Jacob Issacs on BBC tonight <drools>I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Yay good day at work and class were well focused for their first day back. Have also found reports on an old pc in classroom so I feel a bunch of copy and pasting coming on since they are the same year group and I can add my own individual phrases from a bank I can prepare tonight. Is still a lot of late nights and orange lucozade but dh is working till 10pm so if I can get icklies in their beds I have plenty of quiet time to get on with it,. Am determined to get them handed in on time - probably for the first time ever!
Am totally up there with the 'will have to do it myself then' mentality and think a bit of perfectionism thrown in for good measure - add to that a dollop of 'there is so much to do I don't think I'll start any of it' (although I might re-arrange the piles a bit!) and it is no wonder I am a bit behind with things at times:rotfl:Mortgage £119,533 going down slowly
