Well done Claire! :T :T
Thanks folks, looks like I'm not the only one! :T :T MG, LOVE the idea of the simple life - as in the 'simplest way' life
We've decided we're going to both put in a decent effort for a couple of weeks and then see. I'm going to do all I can (ordering door, getting someone to fit it, acquiring soil etc).
Had a lovely BBQ, ate far too much cake though - need to loaf now0 -
Aaaaargh early mornings and me don't mix - blame snoring dh, restless and needing huggles ds and now flippin dawn chorus. SO have got up and done some more schooly work to use the time positively, my poor class have never been so planned for in their lives!
Off to put head on pillow in hopes that I can squeeze an hour in before alarm goes off and the merry-go-round begins again:pMortgage £119,533 going down slowly

Just caught up and laughed and groaned. What is it with us independent women? Did we all hatch out of the same egg? Or catch the same virus?
Cheery : [STRIKE]Been [/STRIKE]still there. I would not be without MrX for worlds. He's caring and funny and good company, but . . . So I do now pay for someone to do the practical things I can't do. As someone earlier said, remember Hyder. You want to enjoy your garden now.
That goes for Teapot (who gets a round of applause for sussing it :T:T), Bitsy and just about everyone else who suffers from 'do everything myself' syndrome.
Claire : Well done. That's another craft you've mastered. :T:T
MG said : "make peace with the fact that wanting to have it all means I have in the past ended up doing it all." Well said and I like the idea of dealing with things the 'simplest' way.
I'm off to declare war on my perfectionist tendencies now - I may be some time :eek:But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
One of the best things about the peeps on this thread (probably including those of you who read but don't post) is the feeling that we did all come from the same eggs.:D
Some of us are further down the road than others - and some of us are just starting, but I know that any "difficult to artriculate" feelings I bring here will be met with gems of relevant advice.
I love that as I am struggling with something in life - someone else will be brave enough to ask a question - and the answers are always truly enlightening and inspiring.
And whilst we may sometimes stray into the fun discussions of underwear and eye-candy:rotfl:, we always seem to return with a golden nugget that moves people forward.
MSE wise - I think you guys have saved me and my boys years of future therapy.:T
And as ususal you guys are the best way to begin the day.

Not only :money: but also effective - we all contribute different viewpoints and it certainly helps me. BTW, this working things out never ends, you know. I really thought I would have life sussed by now but I'm still a work in progress. :cool:But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -

Mornin' my lovelies. Sitting here with my cuppa, chuckling away. Owns up to being another one of the "I'll bl**dy well do it by myself" clan - says the person who has single-handedly decorated her whole house over the past two years .
So yes, I think a lot of us on this thread have the same virus. My daughter has it as well, she's 16 now, but was born with it - lord help the man she ends up with  - you go girl !!! :rotfl:
On the sensible side, if we can afford it, and if it makes life easier we should delegate / accept all offers of help. Here's to making life simpler, Thriftyxxx0 -
I have a yonghurt maker and a problem - yoghurt is too liquidy. MG, help - trouble shooting is in order. (Can use my powers of deduction but this will take time and distract from other, more pressing matter.)

OK - my yogurt method (other methods are available)
I use an Easi-yo (Car boot bargain) - so here goes
In a small bowl cream together 2 tbsp skimmed milk powder and 1 tbsp starter from an Easi -yo powder packet or 2 tbsp from a live yogurt culture. If you are using the powder then give its quick stir because the culture seems to be heavier than the milk powder in the packet and sinks to the bottom)
I then mix this cream into one litre of UHT skimmed milk (if the weather is cool I warm it to blood tempereature in the microwave before adding the cream)
Pour the milk into the yogurt canister and put in Easi-yo flask surounded by boiling water. I then leave it standing without moving overnight (I make it a tea-time and pop it in the fridge to thicken up at breakfast time)
I find that this gives me thick spoonable yogurt - if not you need to add more culture next time, give it more time to thicken or perhaps your pots were not clean enough and another bacteria has got in and ruined your milk. I find standing everything in the sink and pouring a kettle of boiling water over everything solves that one.
I've also had yogurt fail when its been thundery - maybe the wee beasties are scared of the noise.
Hope this helps FW

:rotfl::rotfl: It's funny you should say this because I wrote my list of Frogs last night and went to bed feeling quite stressed about playing catch up after half term week. Then I got narked at H who just wouldn't let me finish and explain my rant and he managed to imagine it was somehow a dig at him to pull his weight more (it sooooooo wasn't he does plenty here at home). All this because I am stressing because the house hasn't been cleaned for a week. But really what will happen if I don't do it all? Will the world come to an end? Nope. We have clean clothes but the house is a little dusty, needs a vac, kids beds need changing but all this is about me putting pressure on myself to catch up and be the perfect housewife. Clearly I need to start imagining myself calmly working my way, effortlessly through my list of frogs
OK off to start right now <glides off like a swan, serene and yet paddling furiously underneath> :rotfl:I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning all, another independent lady here! I'm not 'handy' and am renting so I dont do any house/garden stuff but everything else...'No I dont need a lift, no, I'm fine, I'll manage' etc, etc, etc. When Mum was last ill I was RAGING that she wouldn't ask for any help but then I realised I'm exactly the same! It does mean that we get things done ladies. X'The road to a friends house is never long'0
