Fantasia - you take care of yourself (((hugs)))

Tight clothes - am sat here in a pair of size 16 trousers that are cutting me in two. Refuse point blank to go up a size. Two weeks ago I couldn't do them up, so progress has been made :j. Just need to keep at it.

Crickett - why don't you just keep on with the healthier eating and exercise regime - and weigh yourself once a month? Then you have a log of your progress and you don't get upset when the numbers are changing on a week by week basis?

Hey everybody hope you had a good afternoon. I've felt pants, so I predict an early night for me once DS has finally gone to bed

I don't wish to bring the thread down but not sure how many of you might have seen this thread in the Arms. I didn't know Hyder the OP but his thread was so inspiring and a timely reminder that life is far too short.

Someone pointed me to Hyder's thread and I've followed it. He inspired me to think about some things instead of coasting and was truly inspirational.

Fantasia this bit is not soley directed at you BUT should your diagnosis be the Emphysema then you have the best motivation EVER to quit the fags. Yes they are a drug, it is an addiction but perhaps this is the Universe giving you the final boot up the 'arris to do the final push. I really don't want to be reading a thread like Hyder's about someone who I find so upbeat and inspiring xxxx

Fantasia, did I first 'meet you' on the stop smoking thread? I smoked for over 50 years and stopped last December on my umpteenth attempt. It is possible. If you want to pm me about it, I'm more than willing to support you in anyway I can. It was due to the good folk on SME that I found the strength to stop.

Crickett - your post reminds me of conversations had with my H. He's a numbers man, I am always telling him not to allow a piece of equipment make him feel bad ;) He tells me it's all about the numbers so I can kinda see where you're coming from, along as you treat those numbers with kid gloves xxx

I'm a numbers person too so understand your problem, Crickett. The trouble is that weight loss is not a linear progression. So many variables can affect it - hormones, water retention, progress of food through the alimentary canal - some things take longer to digest than others (sorry, possibly TMI ), conversion of fat to muscle which will decrease girth while reversing weight loss. Also, I do think we have unrealistic expectations and expect it to move fast - the only way to fast weight loss is an unhealthy cutting down - which would leave you in no state to nurture a baby. Sorry, if that sounds hard but, because I'm a numbers person also (I have been known to dance round the office in a most inappropriate way when random sample truly reflected the universe) oops, I had a geeky moment there, :rotfl::rotfl: I do appreciate where you are coming from. (((Cricket)))
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

Crickett. I completely understand that you are a numbers person so you need to focus on that. This is why I was saying that perhaps now is also the time to change your way of thinking. Ok you are not part of a group so weighing yourself weekly is not necessary but it is important to you. So try once every two weeks, (wean yourself off numbers and onto some other indicators). I would suggest that monitoring things about your body might be a way to go - for example, how much further/faster can you walk before you are out of breath. Completely understand the need to know numbers if the goal is IVF so keeping a check on it is the way to go but maybe not so often. I am sure that you are getting there slowly. X

Bitsy, I too have been following the thread and have just headed here from there. So sad but also so inspirational. Hyder reminded me so much of my Dad and whilst Chris's thread was a gentle reminder I have to say that losing both my Mum and Dad within 2 years and at an early age (64 and 62) I have so learned how to be aware of time passing.

Fantasia, I hadnt realised that you had started to smoke again. Sorry if I sounded patronising. I know how difficult it must be. My Mum continued to smoke despite being told that she had throat cancer as a direct result and going through radiotherapy. She would have the treatment and come out of the hospital and light up, my sister still continues to smoke to this day. I know it is an addiction but please, please do try as many different things to help you kick that addiction. You will find the right motivation and the right method at some point. Just dont do what my Mum did and say that it didnt matter because it does. My Dad on the other hand gave up 5 minutes after being told that he had bowel cancer (after smoking for 40+ years) so everybody is different. Dont compare yourself just find the right thing for you. As Bitsy says I dont want to be reading anything about you being on a mission to fulfill a bucket list.

You didnt sound patronising Cheri, I've just read Hyder's thread and am felt very humbled. I know what I have to do, and have been psyching myself upto it, no excuses, no reasons, nothing to justify the continuance of it.

BUT do not feel guilty or beat yourself up. Your "excuses" will be reasons that you just need to find a way to overcome. It is an addiction and it takes time. Be kind to yourself.

((((fantasia)))) I think everyone has said what needs to be said... I'm sure you knew there would be plenty of support here.

If anyone has 5 minutes, SunFlower has a thread on the other side which could do with some input :)

I got DH Sewing poppers on to the bag as I type, I couldn't hold them to sew, My mate has said if I make the bags she will do the hand sewing that needs to be done.

Going to see if I can find a tutorial to make a matching purse out of the remaining denim.

Yay! Well done Thrifty! Now you need to put those trousers away for a fortnight and carry on with what you are doing - try them again then and see the difference! :D

That's a really good idea TMIF. Presumably also Crickett the hospital noted your weight when they originally told you "Computer says no"? I would also hazard a guess that the whole thing is as much about actual fitness levels and how generally healthy you are - and you are doing all the right things to improve things on that front! If you feel that you need that "prompt" to ascertain progress then TMIF's idea about weighing monthly is great. Out of curiosity how many clothes sizes are you realistically thinking you'd like to drop? I've been thinking on this question a bit - theoretically for my height (5'1") I *could* be a 10, but I know from experience that won't work for me. At the moment I am a 16/18, so my initial target is to see if, by the time the beginning of august comes around, I could get into size 14 jeans. If I could, over time, then get down to a 12 that would be brilliant, but for me in honesty it's more about feeling healthier and hopefully reducing some of the problems I'm getting now with my knee joints too. :)

One thing just jumped out at me Crickett reading back on your earlier posts - you mentioned not having gone off to eat the wrong stuff after your disappointment over the result from the scales....from the way you've phrased it it sounds very much to me like that is a REAL achievement, as the comfort eating thing was a real problem for you wasn't it? Personally considering you KNOW you've been doing the right thing with food, and all the exercise you've been doing, I think you should applaud yourself at all the extra muscle you've started building - remember muscle burns calories efficiently and increases your metabolism so that's all to the good! :T

I had tuna salad for tea - a big plate of mixed leaves, cucumber, pepper, radishes, spring onion & tomato dressed with sunflower oil & balsamic vinegar. Had a bag of crisps with that - which I REALLy enjoyed, having eaten less crisps I'm appreciating those I do eat all the more! :D Followed that up with another pile of fruit, and have just had two squares of that lovely dark chocolate with raspberry. I may require some help though...MrEH is out all weekend - he trundles off on Saturday morning and comes back Sunday evening, and already my thoughts are turning towards my meal on Saturday evening.....usually in that situation I would have a takeaway to "make up for" being on my own. How daft is that? Actually writing it down now I can SEE how silly it is! :o Knowing it's illogical though, and actually changing my behaviour are two different things. My current thinking is that maybe I will make something along the lines of Cheri's chick pea & sweet potato curry, with a small portion of rice, but to add a naan bread and maybe some home made raita to make it a bit more of a takeaway type meal? Any more ideas gratefully received!

Actually EH I don't think it's silly it's just a method of coping with being on your own. It's just a way of taking care of yourself. However nowt wrong with acknowledging it for what it is in order to change this method and be more MSE and make your own ;)
