Gareden rescued - looked much worse than it actually is.

Now a quick last hoover of the boudoir as the carpet fitters are on their way today and need to be organised as my back is still giving me grief.

Been working on a meal plan for next week (I am having 3 MSE guests) and have decided that we will just have our normal food but make more of it - so there will be lots of good food, good company and good for the budget too.

    BREAKFASTS

    DS1's raisin bread
    Granary bread toast and jam
Chopped fruit, HM yogurt and granola
HM Apple and Oat Breakfast Muffins
    Khichri and poached eggs

    LUNCHES

    Scots tattie soup and oatcakes
HM Hummus, Pitta and veggie sticks
White bean and tuna salad with sourdough bread
    Spinach Lasagne with salad
    Pasta Salad

    DINNERS

3 bean chilli with rice, salsa and cornbread
Chickpea and potato curry with Raitha and chapattis
Pizza with spicy wedges and coleslaw
Courgette frittata with tabouleh salad, baked potato and beans
Bolognese bake with HM Ciabatta and salad

So looking forward to their visit, and now I know what I am cooking I can start now and stash it in the freezer so that I can spend more tme with them and less in the kitchen. :j

I love it when a plan comes together

That menu sounds delish MG. But what's Khichri?

Can I come too MG, your meal plan sounds scrumptious and food always tastes better when someone else cooks it :)

Sew through all three layers of patchwork, backing and wadding all together, then trim back the wadding to the stitching line and turn through.

Although the last time I did this I overlocked right round so didn't need to trim.

Yes it does but how do I get the wadding to stay in then??

I assume it's batting that's from a roll and as MG sews the edge she's including the edge of the batting/wadding too Iyswim?

Ah I see MG has explained it :)

Indian spelling of kegeree - only mine is made without the fish.

Basmati rice, yellow spilt peas and spices all cooked together. The heated till piping hot with a poached egg on top and sprinkles of chilli and coriander.

Hot, yummy and spicy and Syn Free on SW - lovely when you break the egg and the yolk runs through the rice.

    Happy Birthday Claire :icotbaske:icotbaske:icotbaske
(Just for a change from all those cakes ;)

Please can Heathrow stay open? Popeye is due in on Thursday and last year he was kept away by ash and I had a very bad time without him :(
  • Positive vibes flying your way OO.

Okay Matrix - am plum tuckered. Two hours painting, it's like two hours low level exercise and I am ravenous, so I have just had a slice of toast and marmalade (after having branflakes earlier but that was a small bowl :o).

My front room is all full of nooks and crannies so just can't attack it with a roller iyswim, still over half way on the final coat of the final wall so it will be finished by lunchtime :j:j:j.

Glad the first day in new job went off okay Fantasia. Hugs and positive vibes to all that need.

Spare room cleared as much as possible, just got to mop the floor and another bag of junk removed:j:j:jThe plan is to get OH to set up tv and stereo over weekend and room will be ready to go. Extra living space/study/ guest room and only purchase was sofa bed, everything else we'd got/aquired already - so very MSE.

Bitsy you make a very good point regarding the issue of people failing to take note that you can still get fat on "low fat" stuff if you ram it into your gob as though the end of the world is nigh! Also needing some fat in the diet - I have to hear of people talking about feeding kids a "low fat" diet - children need fat in their diet to maintain health - but it's all about balance isn't it! I thought with the fats though we were all meant to be eating the unsaturated fats rather than saturated? It may be that this was last weeks advice though and it's all changed again.....*sighs*! My personal aims are:
    a) To try so far as possible to eat my 5 a day fruit & veg - not too much of a challenge in the summer months!
    b) To do some research on "changes for the better" - for example sweet potato being a healthier alternative than normal spuds? Brown rice instead of white (I love brown rice so this is no hardship for me!)
    c) Drink more water!
    d) Break the "snacking when bored" cycle
    e) Try to increase my levels of exercise.
    f) To continue to choose natural products (ie butter) over synthetic.

Right - away I go to do a 15 minute kitchen blitz!
