I am also attempting to do intuitive eating as well... and my problems are eating for the sake of it, portions the size of Birmingham and bingeing on junk food when the day doesn't go my way!! When you write it down like that it looks foolish, but this has been a 32 year battle and I really want this time to be the last time I do this. I have also have bulimia in the past which, along with some problems when I was born, totally knackered the old metabolism. Weight goes on mega-fast and leaves really slowly.
I am also in a sedentary job. I can kid myself all day long that I am quite active, but there is no way on earth that I do 10,000 steps per day which is what active people would do. So, exercise is a big step for me too; I have put all the necessary items in a basket by the side of the TV and when i get home tonight, it is change into my gym kit (including a sports bra...or else I will give myself black eyes!! :rotfl:) and get the hell on with it. Much to the kittens bemusement or amusement, no doubt!!What with that and the hike up and down the hill to work this morning, I will have done more exercise in the last 24 hours than in the previous 24 days put together I expect. Which is a sorrowful record.
But which is going to change.
(I am also going to take my multivitamin, glucosamine, cod liver oil and 2 paracetamol before I go to bed... the paracetamol is for the stiffness and pain which I am going to be in tomorrow! :rotfl:)"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440 -
Sports bras are essential especially if you're doing Shred!!
On the portion size I found it a good idea to reduce plate/dish sizes, also use measures for things like dressings, it's amazing how many calories some of these dressings have in them.0 -
work at it slowly Crickett - the idea is NOT to be stiff and in pain! :eek:0

Fantasia - it has all been said. I am so pleased that you felt the strength to post on here. I am sure that you know we will all close ranks around you and give you the support that you may feel is lacking in Real Life at the moment. You absolutely did the right thing. Whilst I dont know you personally I have come to learn, via your posts, that you are a woman of integrity and morals. I am sure that the relation that originally approached you knew this and knew that you would be the one to do the right thing. How insightful of you also to recognise that your emotional involvement would colour any explanation to the "abused" child. I can only echo what others have said, had you done nothing, not only would that child have suffered more but you too would have had a lot to deal with in your head. Yes you are dealing with the aftermath now but you are older and wiser and I suspect a lot stronger and able to cope better (even if it doesnt feel that way right now). I assume that your OH was not around at the time this happened. Is it possible that when he says that he wishes you hadnt "opened the can of worms" it is because he doesn't know how to cope with the situation himself or know how to support you through it and has expressed himself incorrectly? As hard as it is to communicate sometimes you MUST try if you are to work through it. Write a letter to him if you need to explaining everything, tell him what you need from him in the way of support (even if it is to say nothing and just listen to you). Give him a chance to explain why he reacted the way he did. As for going to the GP - well done you need to take care of yourself and that is the best way forward. I am sorry that you are going through this and wish you a speedy resolution to it all.
Eating Diaries - Ladies, can I make a suggestion? So that your Food diaries stand out on the thread, how about colour coding them? That way we can all have some input if we spot something. I did a detox diet. Not to lose weight but to start to eat more healthily. As it turned out a I lost 1 1/2 stones in 28 days and it put me on the path to full on vegetarianism. The detox diet I did was Carol Vorderman - there is a full 28 day plan although it is full on vegan. The food is really, really tasty. I cheated and had wine at the weekends. Anyway the book also tells you what vitamins to take too. Spirulina is one (I think something to do with seaweed.) I later found out that it is supposed to be an appetite suppresant too so not sure if that might help.
The other big tip I have found is when you think that you are full stop eating immediately. Dont think that you have to clear your plate (you can always save it for later) This is, apparantley one of the biggest issues for people who are overweight. They do not listen to their bodies when they are full/hungry. Little and often is also another a good eating habit - so maybe 5 smaller meals/snacks per day.
Crickett - well done on the walk. Why not try that every day but check how long it takes you. Over a period of time you will find that you will walk more quickly. If you do nothing else at all that is a good start to exercising. Alternatively take the stairs instead of lifts or escalators. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -

That is SUCH a good point, and is a good reason why I make my own dressings these days. A salad simply dressed with a tiny drizzle of decent olive oil and a splash of balsamic vinegar can be excellent. Alternatively if you're having a fish based salad try a tsp of Olive Oil with the same amount of lemon juice - whisked together with one of those tiny little whisks it goes opaque and thickens slightly, and is far tastier than most shop bought. Yogurt is a good base for dressings too - let down with a tiny splash of skimmed milk to loosen the texture and add finely chopped herbs, or grain mustard and a little honey, or simply a little salt & pepper.
It does sound ever so much like most of us have the same sort of issues here! Having said that I think that the 10,000 steps a day thing is a bit of a myth - I walked into town and back, plus a load of walking about while I was there, and only just about tipped the 10k steps on my pedometer - came to about 5 miles of walking though, and I reckon most active people with full time jobs would struggle to say they walked that much on a daily basis!
*edit* Cheri the colouring the food diary stuff is a good idea - cheers for that!
I've just chomped a frog! The ISA transfer form I've been putting off doing for days is now done, in its envelope, and I am about to whizz over the road and drop it in the postbox so it will catch the last collection today. As I apparently start earning interest from the point the form is received, I may as well get it to Nationwide as quickly as possible now I've finally filled it in, eh?! (Oh, and it took all of about 10 minutes, including looking up the info that I thought was going to be really tricky to find......needless to say, it wasn't!)🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Fantasia. lovely to see you on here. So sorry about your problems but others have said it all, you did absolutely the right thing and hope you an OH can work through the fallout. Sending Hugs.
Count me in the food thing please - I think since I left work I have gone on self destruct mode in terms of food and I know that I am missing the walk to and from the station I used to have, which really added to the stepcount. I am going to work to SW principles as I can cook for OH using the recipes and don't have to do two meals0 -
