Child Tax credit changed - Why?

Confused about this, why should single mums who choose not to work (a choice they can make that others can't) see their tc increase? Surely that would only de-incentives them even more not to look for a job?
single mothers cannot not choose to work now once there child reaches the age of 7 they have to be working0 -
A couple with children working only 16 hours between them will get a lower amount of working tax credits - they still have to work 30 hours between them to receive max working tax credit.
30 hours between two people! It's a joke. I have only just found out it was this bad.
It should be real hours, 45 hours for one and 20 for the other (if they have a young child) if not, 35 hours each.
My son works a minimum of 50 hours a week: 10 hour days with no dinner break. They often work 12 hours days.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

has your son not heard of the european working hours directive? - he should definitely speak to the HR dept or union rep. All employees are entitled to breaks.
on the other hand, he is very lucky to have found himself a full-time job - most available jobs are part-time, unsociable hours (not possible with young children) or require specific qualifications. There are many people (including parents) who would be extremely grateful for a full-time job - there just aren't that many about

well calculate it then. There are giudes everywhere for how to calculate it. Sodding hell here people are getting free money here and now not content with that want it down to the penny. There is a transitional period in prog here and everyone cant expect their @rses wiping all day long anymore.
For the last time, it's impossible to calculate - the people in the TC office don't seem to know how to calculate it, their online calculators don't seem to be calculating it. Your beef is clearly with people getting 'free money' which is absolutely not what this thread is about - see the guidance at the top of the page and then sod off to Discussion Time or The Arms!0 -

well then he is choosing to do them hours. He isnt obliged to.
I always love the attitudes of these morons who engage in a metaphorical p1$$ing contest about how many hours they work or how hard they work. Your son chooses to work those hours, bully for him. Well done. Not everyone wants to work themselves to death.Salt0 -

You can calculate it yourself. You dont need an online calculator. They tell you what you will get per child, what salary they taper from, what rate the taper at and what % childcare they pay. It really isnt rocket science.milliebear00001 wrote: »Your beef is clearly with people getting 'free money' which is absolutely not what this thread is about - see the guidance at the top of the page and then sod off to Discussion Time or The Arms!
It would only "clearly be my beef" if your a moron and cant read. To those that can read it isnt my beef at all. I am merely passing comment that WHEN you get some money for sod all you can hardly complain if the system is imperfect. It is still a site better than getting nothing at all.Salt0 -

It's not impossible to calculate. The turn2us calculator is giving accurate results as far as I know. https://www.turn2us.entitledto.co.uk/entitlementcalculator.aspx
The rates are all on the HMRC website anyway, http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/taxcredits.htm , provided you understand which elements you're entitled to, how the disregard works, and can do a bit of simple maths you can work it out yourself.

Both turn2us and HMRC give the same figure - Within a few pounds of my current figure. However when I rang they say the working out is correct and is down to changes this year to TC system...0

I think a lot of these panics are going to turn out to be balancing, run-on or interim payments due to the new tax year and the budget change - NOT the new monthly payments for everyone.
Yes, you're probably right although they've never done it that way in the past - usually you get full payments at last year's rate up till when they do the renewal - when you might get an "extra" balancing payment and then new payments at the new rates.
It seems they're trying to do it differently this year probably because some changes will be major changes and they don't want to run up overpayments in the renewal window.
But not telling people what they'll be getting is really bad...unless it's just all the letters haven't reached people yet. This has happened to me several times in the past - payments change and then a week or 2 later the letter comes saying why!

Have you confirmed what information they're basing your claim on? Do they have the right details eg income, childcare costs etc?0
