Hi Lionharted,
I have a Welsh friend who used to make harps - about 30 years ago - he gave up when his wife developed MS, but he said he could recognise his harps from a mile.
Good luck with harp shopping. I bet even "browsing" is fab.
Hugs, Satchmo xWhat would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
satchmo do you know where he is based now? As I know someone who sold his harp making business, just wondering if it's the same person

Do you know, I am absolutely shattered this evening. I knew I was tired but this is ridiculous. It has been a tiring week on the emotional front and that's about all I can put it down to.
The bank holiday couldn't have come at a better time!
I had a long chat with my recruitment agent chum today. I'm really glad I called him as he had some great advice and wisdom to impart.
He has got me thinking big time, I knew my salary was below market rate but I didn't realise just how much
so this is certainly some food for thought. I know in the current climate, I am lucky to have a job as so many do not. But, my finances are not good (although much more under control than this time last year and much much better than the year before!) and so I owe it to myself to consider all the options. Obviously he has a slightly vested interest in telling me all this, but it did offer another perspective. I struggle with being an ambitious well-qualified number-loving girl who loves working as part of a team, versus wanting a quieter less hectic life with more music and less getting up at silly o'clock
So I am thinking again about possibilities with my 'day' job and whether I am really ready to give it up. No rush at all, and I can mull and consider a few things in the car tomorrow. I saw a great options chart (I guess like a mindmap in another guise) so will try and have a crack at this.
Harp shopping tomorrow is for a replacement - basically a sideways step rather than an upgrade. I really felt the size/weight of mine last night, I was very tired while I was playing so felt it more than I normally would, but obviously it's there all the time.
I am off to do some sums and some plotting - and am having a couple of AF days as I really have had enough of drinking this week! :eek:0 -
Hi LHG, My friend is in Penhryndeudraeth. And if you know where that is, you'll know Gwyllam!

Interesting about the work stuff, big decisions to be made!!
Sometimes I wish I could have 5 mins with a crystal ball...but where would be the fun in that??0 -
ah Satchmo, my friend is in North Essex :rotfl: never mind

LB, you are right about the crystal ball. It would be nice to know I'm on the right path for sure, and that good things are round the corner, but other than that, I don't want to know
I'm shattered again, but have done 6 hours driving and 2 hours harp testing so not a great surprise!
I was very, very bad on the food front and ate a whole bag of Percy Pig and Pals - they are my long journey weak point  plus 2 bags of M&S posh crips and a packet of their mini jaffa cakes. I have had a big bowl of salad stuff for tea to apologise to my poor body!
AF again which is a fab result.
I am craving a Chinese takeaway, I have been resisting for well over a week now, but have decided tomorrow is the night as I will have done a wedding and that's always a major weak point on the junk food/zero cooking stakes.
However, I am trying to be good and :money: so I have decided I am going to trade my clubcard vouchers for double Finest vouchers, and I am 90% sure they do some chinese stuff on there. Normally I'd get triple Pizza Express vouchers, but I struggled to use them up this time since they've shortened the expiry dates, so this time I will try the Finest thing instead.
Should be much better for my thighs too :rotfl:
Saw 2 beautiful harps. I can't part ex mine unfortunately, so will need to get him up for sale if I am to buy a different one. I love him to bits, but time to pass him on now. The others felt much better and will help to alleviate my wrist/shoulder/elbow problems.
I need to choose between blingy (bit of gold, and very nice too!) and pretty (cherry blossom/flower petals/pink), whereas my current harp is all sleek and black and glossy and much more me! There is a £2k price difference on them, but not much difference on the sound which really surprised me. I think I am going to end up going for the dearer one (no surprise there!) but it all depends what happens with selling mine.
I am having a little lie in tomorrow, then need to do some Davina as it's been ages. The wedding is late afternoon then I will be home in the evening for my pretend chinese :rotfl: ooooh and the MotoGP :j
have a good weekend x0 -

thanks Wordsmith, I was hoping you were OK and posting again

another doggy today as well - the harp place have a beautiful chocolate labrador called Purdy. Her job is listed on the website as ensuring all customers get a warm welcome :rotfl:
I'm watching the SATC film - I am going to cry, an awful lot. It's been on about 5 minutes. But the crying is needed, has been overdue by about a month (bar a brief sniffle at counselling lady's house) and while lots of nice stuff is going on, some old stuff needs to be let out as well

evening all

no crying, lots of damp eyes on Saturday night as the film set me off on so many trains of thought, but no actual tears. I'm off to counselling lady's house tomorrow so no doubt that will be a sobfest!
yesterday's wedding was lovely, a really nice bride and groom and a nice ceremony with lots of giggles.
My honourable MSE intentions on the Chinese front went out of the window. Eeven after 2 AF nights, I woke up feeling really wiped out yesterday morning and couldn't face the bright lights and scrum of my scabby Tesco's. So went to the Chinese after the wedding, stretched it over 2 nights and have really enjoyed it
Never mind!
I have had the most wonderful day today. Nothing really special has happened, but I had lots of simple pleasures with a nice touch of fabulous/glamorous too.
I popped into town for some shopping, got all the things I have needed for ages (skincare, phone case, stationery bits) plus some new perfume (haven't worn any in weeks and hate being without it) and a beautiful dress for my harp concert. I was going to post a link but it looks a bit dull in the picture. It's gorgeous, quite sophisticated but edgy too which is just what I wanted. I returned a couple of bits that needed to go back too. I was expecting a battle with M&S over some flipflops that fell to bits but they were fine and did a refund with no bother.
I resisted a frock in Debenhams that was nice but clung in the wrong places - would be nice when I have lost a few lbs but I wasn't falling into that trap
so left it where it was.
I did cave in to some new bedding though. I could swing for Kirstie Allsopp, it was in the sale, loved the duvet cover then turned over to look at the picture and saw matching cushions. I am not a matching cushions on the bed kind of girl. But this one had a dog on, white with a dog embroidered on in the same grey/bluey fabric. My heart punched me in the stomach. I bought the cushion. And another soppy one with Home written on. !!!!!! what is happening to me!! :rotfl:
Most importantly I bought some awesome shoes. They are the highest I have ever bought, 5 1/2 inches (an inch of that is platform). They feel OK for the harp although they are a little extreme and I don't think they will be quite right for the concert as I will be up and down from the harp a lot and I don't want to go A over T on the shiny church tiles. But granny would have loved them, and mum nearly screamed when she saw them.
I have a nice feeling of having bought the things that I needed and had budgeted for, and a couple of treat-y bits which are much loved and affordable. I haven't been shopping in forever and really enjoyed it.
Mum and dad came this afternoon to mow the lawn (dad) and do some flute and harp stuff (mum). I really enjoyed playing with mum, we are working on a couple of Debussy classics for my concert and I think they will go down great.
One of my great racing friends texted me earlier to say he wasn't far away so he would pop in for a brew. It was brilliant to see him, it has been far too long and I am so glad he made the effort.
So I have been the one being visited, not doing the visiting, which is luxurious!!
I am sleepy and not far off ready for bed.0 -
Hi LHG - sounds like a good few days.....unravelling the emotional layers takes time, but that is no bad thing as long as you are making steps in the right direction.
Shopping sounds good too - my sort of day

Some lovely things in your post, but I can't comment because I can't get beyond five and half inch heels. Five and a half inches! I am sure they are fab (piccie, please), but ... crikey! [I am a complete philistine when it comes to shoes. And handbags.]"Green pastures are before me,
