Vendor wants their stuff back!

Just give it back, think how good you will feel!0

Of course if it's a load of crap then the seller is at fault. But who says it's tat? In this case it sounds like a few valuable items so I say again that I am amazed anyone would think of keeping it.
I'd be concerned that all the stuff would get taken out of the loft (as it should be) and the vendor turns up and cherry picks what they take... leaving the OP with a pile of junk they then have to get rid of.0 -

Is that what the OP said?? He has said nothing about cherry picking from a load of stuff... all he mentioned were skis and guitar. You've made some huge assumptions there.0 -

I am...
But several months after a move into a house the loft would have been emptied (and filled with my own junk) if it were mine.
The op could empty the loft and the person might take it all. I'm just pointing out things don't always go as planned.0 -

Or he could just give him his guitar and skis and everyone would be happy with not much effort!!
I think we see this differently so let's leave it at that0 -
Give him his stuff back. Cant believe anyone would actually need to ask that.0

Hi all,
The person we bought our off a couple of months ago has put a note through the door asking for the stuff back that he left in our loft (guitars/skis etc). The estate agent said it was legally ours as we ‘inherited’ it all when we bought the house, so we were looking forward to flogging it all on ebay!
He contacted the estate agent a while ago about this, and they gave me his number which i lost, so it seems he is desperate. As it was a rental property, it might not even be his to be honest, I’m just worried he may turn nasty if he doesn’t get it off us (although no idea what he is like yet!!)
Any advice much appreciated!
Thanks
The estate agent was mistaken. (Taking legal advice from an estate agent, whatever next?!)
The 'stuff' may or may not be the property of the previous tenant. However, it is 100% certain that it isn't yours. I would be less concerned about the individual turning 'nasty' and more concerned about police involvement should you refuse to return the goods in question.0 -
Yes, i am obviously immoral and horrible and an example of all the problems in today’s society...i knew these forums were harsh but the amount of assumptions and judgement going on here is ludicrous. If you knew how much cr*p the vendors put us through, you would hit him over the head with the skis...
I agree they aren’t our things, but then is the vendor also going to collect all the furniture they were supposed to have removed before completion? Are they going to remove all the used condoms from under the bed and the rotting food out of the cupboards...oh wait, I’ve already had to do that...
The vendors came back before completion to get what they wanted, or so solicitors/estate agents informed us.
It’s not so much that I want to sell them rather than give them back they aren’t ours, but if we can sell them/give them to a charity shop (as we are doing with the 10+ bin bags of clothes) then we will rather than taking them to the tip...why not?
However, if he wants them, again, we don’t know that they are his, and what if he takes them, and the tenants return saying ‘where are my skis?’ and get nasty? I agree that is the same if we sell them though, as no one gets them.0 -

This is exactly what happened to us. When we moved in there was quite a lot of old junk left in the garage and loft. We got rid of the stuff out of the garage (at our expense) then a little while later the vendor's son turned up asking for the Christmas decorations that had been left in the loft. There was also a load of old kitchen cabinets left in there so we asked if he wanted them too. Oh, errrr, yes.
As we brought everything down he asked us to put it outside our front door and he'd load his van from there. Surprise, surprise, he disappeared without saying good bye, taking what he wanted and leaving the junk.
Luckily, I knew the vendor hadn't moved far away and our new neighbours knew their address. So the same day we took all the old junk around to their new house and dumped it on the lawn.
When you move, you should leave a house empty and not expect the buyers to provide free storage, at least not without asking!
ETA: OP, after reading the post above, my response would be to tell the vendors that you got rid of everything that was left as it all looked like junk to you and suggest maybe they try the local recycling centre. And, come to think of it, present them with a bill for your time and expenses.0 -

See, that little bit of info get's us on your side
I'd just deny it all!0
