So the person contacting the OP is the landlord, or the tenant?

And the items could belong to the landlord, the last tenant, or even a previous tenant.

Legally, they may well be yours now, but do you really want to shelter behind the law to retain ownership of stuff that wasn't yours in the first place, and you didn't expect to receive at all?

a bailment was established. You have to take reasonable care of these goods and give them back.

This has to be a spam - if not then it shows just how low morals have gone in this country.

    OP - shame on you.

Faced with a post that said "the vendor has left 4 tons of rubbish in my house. I have tried contacting them but they have not responded. What do i do with the rubbish? Can I just throw it away?"

    What would your response be?

poppy sarah beat me to it.

but isn't it amazing how 'morals' change when the items are of value rather than the usual load to tat the previous owners can't be bothered to remove from the loft.

    Vacant possession
Empty. On completion of a sale a seller is obliged to deliver the property with vacant possession which means clear of occupants and of objects which are not included in the sale.

    Legally his, morally not.

I'd go with this, put the onus on the seller and ask them to prove whose property it now is. If the seller / previous renter really want the stuff back it must be worth them doing an hours ground work to prove they still own it.

Of course if it's a load of crap then the seller is at fault. But who says it's tat? In this case it sounds like a few valuable items so I say again that I am amazed anyone would think of keeping it.
