sitting with just the internet open the CPU usage is between 1 and 5% as i type, the commit charge is 672M/1246M and it says there are 58 processes.
thanks Closed.0 -
Unless you need them running all the time, use the startup tab in msconfig to disable these items from running at startup (they can always be run manually if needed)
I dont get this bit, sorry, could you explain for me?? thanks.
(i dont know how to disable them)
Am doing the other bits in short bursts as and when the parents are out (because they like Mcaffee (which I HATE)) but probably wouldnt let me knowingly remove and replace with something else.0 -
Hi
Used the erecovery and the computer boots up and looks to be ok but when I shut it down it gives me another blue screen with the error codes 0x000000a0, 0x00000001, 0x00000006, 0x86DEF408, 0x00000000
Don't know what this means. Any help (or telling me its time to buy a new computer) would be good.0 -

Take the RAM modules out carefully and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser. Make sure all of the innards of the PC are seated properly and lightly clean away any dust..
Then run ChkDsk
Then when you start the PC up again make sure that you install all of the Vista updates to SP2 before you shut it down again.0 -

all the vista modules install (i think) i get a bar on the bottom of the desktop screen that says installing 4/12 it did 1-3 ok but seems to stick on 4
i dont know whether to turn the computer off with the button so that i can take out the RAM to clean or whether to just leave it alone for however long (but its been on 4 for hours now)
thanks0 -
Yes, you can turn it off to do the hard drive and RAM checks.0

this is from the new computer (the one we are trying to fix) Ive managed to get it to stay on long enough to install Comodo, Avira and Malware bytes, so here is the malware log (looks ok, doesnt really tell me anything but dont know if it tells you anything) and in a sec ill post another hijack this log (tho this time for the newly fixed cpu)
maybe something in one of these will tell Closed (or helpers) why it wont shut down without the blue screen and the error codes.

ok when i try to do anything with hijack this, i get an error message saying that the administrator has set policies to prevent this installation.
not sure where to go from here. (really starting to want to throw the computer at at wall) not thinking this is just a HD problem anymore.......0 -
ok so i tried saving and running as administrator (through the right clicking) and I get the error message:
"The dependency service or group failed to start"
along with the filepath of the downloads folder where the programme installer is.
Im seriously asking now, new computer time? I have assignments due and rather than waste (because if we cant fix it it is a waste) time, id rather just get on with having to save up for a new one.(and sorry for being whiny about it. i am super grateful i managed to start it up at least, and get my data thanks to you guys (and another computer). but its hard to watch it die like this
)

Did you choose 'Remove Selected' and then reboot at the end of the Malwarebytes scan?
Did you run ChkDsk?0
