and i have no idea what the hell all this is (but i see we for some reason have bits of Symantic corp(which i assume are remnants of NOrton antivirus) as well as Mcaffe (if thats wrong ignore me) anyways, a reallllllly log log.

i just click to run the scan not "analyse this" button.

Nothing apart from a couple of Christian names(which you can edit out if you wish)

I can see why the PC is slow. Too many BHOs, startup objects and general carp.

If closed isn't aware of your HijackThis log, nudge him into action. He offered to look through it for you, so don't feel awkward.

I'm sure they don't use any of those Toolbars and Google Desktop, so he'll instruct you on how to remove them.

uninstall mcafee, run mcafee removal tool, uninstall rapport, install avast 6 free, install cleanmem for starters - post your installed physical ram and commit charge figures from task manager/performance.

The best way of cleaning up a slow or badly infected machine is to backup all your data to an external drive, and do a factory restore using the factory restore partition (see manual or manufacturers website) or Windows disc. The alternative is to do it manually :-

Download and install cleanmem http://www.pcwintech.com/cleanmem (download direct download). In windows explorer, go to c:\windows\tasks, click on the clean system memory task, schedule, advanced, and change it from every 30 minutes to every 5 minutes, then ok, ok. Hello,
I was just passing on here and saw this thread title. I have been having similar problems with windows Vista on my laptop; it was working fine yesterday but today it wont load up at all! Its driving me mad, I've got a uni assignment due in 2 weeks time!
Anyways...my laptop wont load up the login page where I type my password. I get a screen (eventually after about 5 mins), saying 'configuring updates stage 3 of 3- 0% complete'. It says this for about 5 mins orso and then the laptop restarts itself only to load up the configuring updates page again and then restart and so on. I've had on and off problems with installing updates on this laptop before, I usually avoid choosing the installing them when shutting down the laptop? Is this a similar problem as discussed here? How can I get my data back can anyone give me advice?
