Annoyed Student in need of my £50 back!! HELP

    Bit ambitious to expect all retail staff to know the ins and outs of retail law. Seen as most are earning slightly above if not minimum wage. If you could trust them with retail law im sure they wouldn't be retail assistants.

    A fair point.

    But they shouldn't offer poor (and incorrect) advice based on their experience of working in a shop.

    See, I'd disagree with that. I do expect retail staff to understand the law relating to what is, after all, the industry they work in! It's a necessary part of the job that they deal with customer queries and complaints. How on earth can they do this if they don't know what they're talking about?

    Imagine going in some boozer to find the bar staff serving 10 year olds. Perhaps they could use 'Why should I be expected to know the ins and outs of the sale of alcohol law?' as their excuse? :rotfl:

    Maybe there would be fewer "one-post wonders" if the responses received were balanced and helpful rather than critical and personal (in a number of cases).

    It is up to her what she spends her money on and responses saying "when I was a student....." are unhelpful.

    Some people have absolutely no grasp of their consumer rights etc. and come on here genuinely looking for help/assistance, if the actual answer is that the best result they can hope for is an exchange then say so, there is no need to be rude.

    I wouldn't have questioned why she chose to spend £50 on a dress in the first place, and I would also realise there is a difference between being able to spend £50 on a dress without financial hardship but then not being able to spend another £XX on a dress elsewhere when not getting a refund on the first one.

    I did. I think it's a travesty to spend 50 quid on a dress when there's psychoactive drugs waiting to be bought, scoffed and enjoyed. Call yourself a student?! Huh. You'll be saying you're at university to "get an education" next. They don't make 'em like they used to...
