Unfortunately I've experienced so many poorly trained staff in retail environments I'm not sure I trust them to understand the law. I do realise there are many exceptions to this. However, Valerie seems to reinforce my point.
Bit ambitious to expect all retail staff to know the ins and outs of retail law. Seen as most are earning slightly above if not minimum wage. If you could trust them with retail law im sure they wouldn't be retail assistants.
Amazes me how customers come into a DIY store i work at expecting expert electrical advice and are dissapointed when they dont recieve it. 'Sir, if i knew how to re-wire your house, i would ask for more than £6.08 an hour. And wouldn't stand here taking abuse from you, please contact an electrician, thank you muchly'0 -

See, I'd disagree with that. I do expect retail staff to understand the law relating to what is, after all, the industry they work in! It's a necessary part of the job that they deal with customer queries and complaints. How on earth can they do this if they don't know what they're talking about?

Maybe there would be fewer "one-post wonders" if the responses received were balanced and helpful rather than critical and personal (in a number of cases).
It is up to her what she spends her money on and responses saying "when I was a student....." are unhelpful.

My advice would be to take the exchange as the store doesn't even have to do this as item was not faulty etc. Might be worth seeing if they will offer store credit if there is nothing she wants to exchange it for at this time.

I did. I think it's a travesty to spend 50 quid on a dress when there's psychoactive drugs waiting to be bought, scoffed and enjoyed. Call yourself a student?! Huh.
